Good price but…don't do it if it doesn't have the full manuf warranty (5 years). Reliability on these is awful. I've had one Ryobi fail three times after 1.5 years. Bought this exact model as replacement and it was bad out of the box. Factory authorized repair shop told me he can't keep up with failed Ryobi electric mowers.

Yeah, I generally avoid the reconditioned Ryobi items. Maybe fine sometimes, but that shorter warranty is a show stopper for me.
Factory blemished, on the other hand, has full warranty.

I got mine from Home Depot it does what supposed to do cut grass without issues……

Generally the 18v stuff is more reliable, especially the batteries. I have a refurb 18v brushless trimmer, it's about 3 yrs old and I use it hard (very wild 1 acre in Central TX) and it's had no problems. My first 40v trimmer burned up, but that was the early days of those models. I've had a 40v battery fail, but no 18v batteries. After nearly 10 yrs, I've actually only had one tool and battery die (the ones I mentioned above)

i work property management, and cut 6 lawns with this for 3 yrs now. its banged up pretty bad. im missing the batterry cover which is fine bc it gets lower clearance. The hieght adjustment does not work anymore-- I think from getting it out of the truck roughly, same with the back wheel(cracked and epoxied back together). but this thing keeps on trucking. im gonna convince my work to grab this as its worth it for the battery alone.

people asking how long it lasts: depends on what you are cutting and how often. it's brushless so if you can keep the revs down, as in don't cut extra long wet grass then it can last a lot longer, but I use a 4 ah for the mower and a 3 ah for the whip and do about 2-3 half acre lawns and charge as often as possible. time I save not messing with spark plugs air filters gas etc is so worth it. It is lighter than a steel mower and stows away nicely. but yeah the build quality is shotty by all means, luckily the motor keeps going!

TIP: clean the undercarriage often if dealing with wet grass as it will make it work harder than it has to.

Edit: Actually I have the model that stores the batteries side by side not on top of one another.

Does you 18v trimmer overheat and shut off after about 10 min of continued use? Mine did so I had it serviced. Motor replaced. Still has the issue. Figured it was likely on all of these units. Maybe just got a bad unit

I have been using their reconditioned trimmer for 3 years now without any issue. For $90 the trimmer came with a 40v battery.

In your case, what was the failed part. Was it the motor, battery?

Main electronics twice, replaced motor once (don't know if that was root cause or not), battery died (flashing red light of death common to these batteries). This last failure, yet to be repaired, was total power loss with smoke.

so here is the magic question: did they all fail before the first year?

every time i buy a reconditioned or refurbished item I run in thought a very rigorous test. defects usually will show up very quickly. so instead of mowing my usual 15min, i would run the motor for 45min, and i would let the lawn get 3x taller than my usual before mowing.

within one year of the warranty window if the item makes it, I usually never have any major issues with it afterwards.

I've been using ryobi for decades (before the lithium + line) and haven't had a failure on anything but a cheap drill from a starter set. I lean toward the brushless line and love it. I seem to have to replace batteries every 18 months or so; but the motors have been a gem. I have NOT ventured into 40V with them as my yard needs are met with gas only.
