Bought this exact set a year or so ago on clearance. I bought two of them so that wife and I could take our two kids and try out camping and this kit is great for testing if you like camping. camping can be a bit overwhelming to get started and this gets you a great base to not break the bank if you want to go spend a weekend camping. Sure it won't survive a monsoon, but it has been fine in showers. The sleeping bags are plastic-y, but are fine. They would be the first thing i'd suggest replacing. We used this kit, found out we love camping and have since upgraded everything. People will tell you how to spend buckets of money on the best gear, but for family camping trips, coleman and walmart crap is fine (and some really good).

A cost-effective way to waterproof gear like this (fabric, seams, zippers) is (pure) silicone + mineral spirits made into a viscous liquid (about the consistency of latex paint) and brushed on. It's cheap and works about as well as the commercial sprays. This is one of the ways older style canvas gear (or worn out brezent) is rehabilitated for modern use.

If you buy a lot of milsurp gear for camping (rucksacks, bivys, ponchos etc.) that is worn or weathered that approach can help improve the waterproof-ness.

Another related tip: you can sew with dental floss to reinforce seams or repair holes and gashes. The nylon is stronger than most thread and the wax helps it slide through nylon or polyester (common on hiking/camping gear) without much trouble. Finishing a stitch can be done with a drop of super-glue (which was originally designed to seal gashes and small wounds on humans). Floss is great for your emergency pack also: cleans your teeth, repairs gear, and stitches gashes on your person. Super-glue also: can help seal small wounds, repair small damage to gear, etc.

If you want to go camping, don't get this set. If you want to camp out in the back yard, this set will be fine. Warning: A 4 person tent is only big enough for 4 sleeping bags, not gear.
This!
I like to have 2 extra people "capacity" and the door for gear and room to change and what not. This is fine for 2 people, except all the comments about it not being waterproof. That's a must on a tent. Haha

I've got a similar Ozark Trail tent and it's been absolutely fabulous in monsoon rains and winds, and we've never even used the waterproof spray. We used it for about a dozen camping trips over a few years before we got bigger and nicer tents, but we still carry this one as an emergency backup on all our trips.

I've bought what I'm pretty sure is this exact tent for a friend that sometimes goes with us on a deal a couple years ago. It's holding up great as well over three trips (and no trouble getting it back in the bag as somebody else mentioned), although it's never been tested in bad weather.

I bought the cheap Ozark set cause I'm in Arizona...no rain, rno problems, right? We'll first night out we had a pop up thunderstorm and didn't have an issue at all. The rain fly worked fine to keep water out and the only thing I did was lay a tarp down underneath.

If you're are big time camper, sure drop a few hundred bucks on a tent. But if you're camping a handful of times a year, this is perfectly fine.

Worst part about cheap gear is the fact that it may turn you away from camping. The chairs are fine. The table is eh. Get a piece of thin wood and cut to fit the top. Then two binder clips to hold it down. This is the only way to have a solid surface.

The sleeping bags, it's a hit or miss. I've used cheap ones that were nice. And I've used cheap ones that felt like sleeping in plastic wrap.

As far as the tent goes, it's probably ok. If you leave the fly off it's probably not as balmy. The issue is if you close all the mesh for rain, it will become extremely damp inside fom exhalation. by the pictures, it appears the mesh only goes down half way. which means it will be warmer(no moving air across the body) but that isn't a good thing in the summer. the other mesh may be adequate to remove condensation to the outer layer.

I actually think this is a great deal for people wanting to get into camping. If you like it you'll end up cringing at the poor quality but, it's better than buying random midrange stuff you'll end up wanting to replace too. Or if like many you realize that camping is actually pretty uncomfortable and not for you, you're only out 89 bucks.

Just make sure to check the weather before you go. And don't go too far from your car

Where does this say it's not waterproof? I don't see that.

They really should have included a ground tarp with this. Setting this up without one will probably turn you off to camping forever.

If everything mentioned in the product fits in that little bag in the picture with the couple, I am in for the ultimate luxury backpacking tent.

I live here in Louisiana where I grew up fishing, hunting and camping every weekend. My dad always had a cheap tent and we spent many many nights out under the stars and under a rainy sky. Every fall we would waterproof the tent with a spray can of Scotch Guard to get ready for the new hunting season. We never had any trouble. Sometimes if we were expecting truly heavy rainfall he would just throw up a small cheap blue tarp over the tent as extra protection.

My dad is a great man but we were dirt poor and he hunted and fished every weekend to put food on the table for a family of 4. He was and still is, the greatest outdoorsman I will ever know. So if you can't afford an expensive tent, get a cheap one like this and go to Walmart and buy a can of heavy duty scotch guard. Put your tent up in the yard and spray every single inch of it and then leave it to dry overnight. In the morning, spray the seam areas and around the zipper area again and let it sit out till that afternoon and then pack it up. It will be good for about a year before it needs respraying.

I can't tell you how many nights we spent in one of those cheapo wally world tents. I remember camping out on sandbars on the Red River and catfishing all night long with Kenny Rogers, Waylon and Willie on the radio. I think of all the nights we spent in the deer or squirrel camp and roasting a hot dog over the fire while my dad cleaned his gun for the next mornings hunt. Yeah, we always had cheap camping gear but the memories we made will last a lifetime. I can afford anything I want now but don't let anyone tell you that you can't camp in a cheap tent. I'm living proof that it not only can be done, but you can stay dry and make lifetimes of memories doing it.

If you can afford better go for it but if you can't, then grab this and take your kids camping. Make some memories of your own. Just don't forget the bug spray if your from the south, cause sometimes it's more important than the tent lol Stick Out Tongue
