This is a great SSD for those upgrading older MacBooks (Airs & Pros from 2013-2015) since this uses a Phison E12 controller. I have one of these in a 2014 MacBook Air and it's been working great, hibernation and all (on Big Sur).

If you don't care the out of SLC cache speed is only 400mb, slower than the 1tb sn550 and the old 500gb sn500 (out of cache speed are more than 700mb), it's good for storage but not the system.

This only matters if you're doing a lot of writes (video editing) or daily moving large files - tens of GBs - to your SSD. Typical users don't do these kind of things often enough to matter, and it's still faster than a SATA III SSD. Professional users wouldn't be looking at this drive anyway. This is a good system drive for everybody but the professional user. Read the reviews, especially customer reviews.

It's ok deal, just a quick note, try getting 10% off at WD store through email signup, which may result in better price. They offer free shipping also.

Is moving up to 1TB for 110 still a deal? (Amazon)

I know 90 is the sweet spot but I'm in a pinch for a new drive.

I plan on doing moderate video editing and gaming with the drive

Edit: bought the 500

I have had good experiences with O.rico enclosures for NVMe drives, but the only problem is that a lot of them tend to get hot during sustained copy operations and then will thermal throttle, hindering performance.

I just bought this enclosure that has a fan built in: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08CDF37BX

Hopefully this solves any thermal throttling. Fingers crossed.

Thinking of buying this for:
https://www.amazon.com/HP-590-p00...ref=sr_1_9

Any ideas on that? It has the M.2 slot for it.

I feel you can get a little bit better For that price if you're shopping used. At least for the processor. The processer is like three generations old. Id compare with ebay.

Could not find one on E-Bay for less. I did find a Dell Optiplex 5040 SFF for only $129 Refurb. I may get it instead. I do not game on it anyway just web surfing and youtube. It is not a bad I5 not as good as the one for a lot more money. Enough for me. Right now I am using Lenovo Chromebook Duet and it works except with a lot of tabs. This would be much faster and it has 2 DP's and an HDMI. It comes with 8GB ddr3 and a 1GB HD but a M.2 slot for this. It has two empty slots for DDR3. It will run my 4k monitor in 4k and I could add two more monitors if I wanted to. The Duet just runs it at 1080 P 24hz.

If the motherboard of your company's pc can accept an NVME SSD, then this drive will work in that pc. Check on the internet whether that's possible.

If the motherboard of your company's pc can't accept an NVME SSD, then the platter drive can be replaced with a SATA III SSD, which will still provide a very nice speed bump.

The question I have for you is: Would your company allow you to replace the internal components of a company pc? It might be better to talk to your boss and have the company upgrade your pc.

Best wishes!
