If you want to avoid a sub, you want to spend more on floorstanding speakers instead of bookshelves.

I have some huge, 40+ pound floorstanding speakers in my main room, they still greatly benefit from a sub, especially for movie content.

If I could do it all over again, I'd buy better bookshelf speakers and two subs. This is what I learned from my garage system as the bookshelf speakers with 5.25 inch woofers generally blend well with a 12 inch sub in-room.

So my suggestion: for the price of the floorstanding speakers anyone is looking at, spend it on bookshelf speakers, speaker stands, and a sub instead.

Had these before and if I didn't go the wireless route, I'd buy a few pairs right now. I chose the infinity 162's because the center channel RC263 had rave reviews. I JUST hooked it up and love it so far as I didn't previously have the space to install it as is in my home because it's a beast

Pioneer and Carver? Pioneer is more miss than hit, but occasionally they do a nice job. Carver? Lots of power in my old a-500x, but I can't imagine it's particularly clean power. And their speakers? Nice if you're a fetishist for weird designs and not sound. Samsung/Harman/JBL/Infinity/Revel/etc. are the best in the business overall. That means they're more hit than miss, but still they have some misses here and there. I'd happily put the 530 up against an equivalently priced and even more expensive pioneer speaker. The PB12 is excellent, but I'd want 3-4 of them.
Wow 3-4 pb12 plus subs? My single sub at maybe ~75% max volume is enough to rattle the door downstairs with sub bass below my perception threshold... You must have a biiiiig room.

These only have 5 1/4" drivers.
I mean, I like horn speakers, JBL's, PA speakers and have nothing against 5" bookshelfs, but these things are pretty huge AND low sensitivity which is odd.

These are great but it's worth mentioning that they're not near field speakers, so not good for a desk setup.
I have them on my desk and they sound great, just had to toe them in more

Yes. That's what I said in different words. What are you arguing
Directivity means you can move your head to the left or right, and the sound doesn't change significantly in volume or frequency response. It will have an impact on imaging, for sure, but I don't know what immersiveness really means here.

The purpose of multiple subs isn't just loud volume. You can even out the frequency response, getting rid of peaks and nulls caused by room interactions, by having multiple subs. It's not as important with one person listening, but if you want two or more people to have a similarly great sound experience, then multiple subs are necessary. The sweet spot is very small for one sub, no matter the sub. Right now, I have the SVS PB16, but it's really only great for one listening spot, dead center and head on.

These are normal sensitivity. Remember, specs are usually lies. These are about as sensitive as speakers by other brands that claim 96db sensitivity.

4 is the minimum. 1 in each corner.
4 gives a very broad listening window, but may be overkill for most people.

Thanks. I know nothing about ohms and what is required to properly push speakers. I should have said previously that the receiver is a Pioneer SX-780.
That's only rated to 8 ohms. It will probably work fine, but I'd consider upgrading eventually. At normal listening volumes, you're fine. If you want it really loud, that amp is going to run out of steam or overheat. An amp that old also won't come close to a quality modern amp. Also, remember, specifications are almost always lies. For instance, Klipsch will claim 8 ohms and 96db sensitivity while delivering 3 ohms or worse and ~86db sensitivity.

Would the speakers pair well with a Sony STRDH590 receiver ? Sorry for the questions . New to audio . Will probably use for music 80% time and 20% movies
Speakers are rated at 6 ohms and dip to 4ohms at times. Receiver is rated to 6 ohms but it can almost certainly handle 4 ohms now and then. I'd say you're fine.

JBL Studio 520CBK which uses the same horn waveguide technology. It's a big center and sounds terrific
The bookshelves are way better than the 520CBK. It's super hard to make a horizontal speaker that doesn't suck.

If you check the pattern and occurrence from previous posts of this deal, you would notice that it actually was pretty common and would frequently go on sale around this price. But this was pre-covid. Covid f'd up the prices so that this deal never came back again 😭.
Never saw the 530's for $150.

Not the 530's. Was talking about their studio monitors JBL 306p's.

Better at what? Better at low frequencies? Do you enjoy playing Debbie Downer all the time?
The 520CBK is a great center and complements JBL's horn waveguide speakers nicely to form an immersive soundstage. It faithfully recreates the vocal range which is what the center channel's purpose.

How does JBL center channel? And the sub, I am tempting to get one. How does it compare to svs brand?

Measurements of those sideways center speakers usually have unequal frequency response. Better to get a 530 in the center than a 520. How is this a Debbie Downer? The science is pretty clear, even if it doesn't match with the marketing.

If look into the kef 150s as well but wait until they are down to$300 and not their inflated prices
Agreed, I did an in-home demo of the Q150, Polk S15, and JBL530. After a coupon I was able to get the 530s and 520c for almost half the price of the Q150s. If not for that I would be running the Kefs right now. If they ever go back to $300 I am buying a pair. The Polks fell flat in comparison. For the price I am really enjoying the JBLs though.

The receiver should be OK with the 530's but not the 590's.

I'd not be surprised if the 590 is more sensitive and therefore louder at the same amount of power. Either way, a bigger amp is often better.
