Using the Otterbox lineup for reference:

The Defender is a BRICK of a hybrid two-piece design (technically three-piece, two material).
The Commuter has a sleeker back while presenting fewer rubberized surfaces in what is still a hybrid two-piece design.
This Symmetry series comes just under the Commuter as it attempts to retain some of the benefits of the two-material design in a one-piece case.

That then makes this bulkier than many single-material case designs, but slimmer or as slim as any other two piece design (the Spigen NeoHybrid comes to mind).

Good luck!
Jon

Why is it that I only ever see Otterbox on sale and never Lifeproof cases?

Seems all colors are 50%, not just the pink. Anyone know if this would fit an Iphone 6?

My experience with Symmetry series cases has been pretty bad. All my clear cases of this series separated got unglued (separation of silicon pieces front and back). Bought from same source.

I do wonder about what kind of relative sales volume Lifeproof does anymore. Some time back they were definitely a competitive rugged case option. However, once they found themselves in Otterbox's radar a lawsuit and acquisition followed (they're now owned by Otterbox) and now you see a relatively simplified set of offerings (as you might expect from a subsidiary company).

I would definitely argue that the clear cases are a completely different animal from the other Symmetry lineup (given the different materials composition). I too have had mixed experience with the clear case Symmetry (with two of the same model/phone).

Otherwise, I would strongly recommend the Symmetry for anyone seeking a smoother out of pocket experience without compromising too much of the ruggedness of the bulkier Defender. Of course, I would qualify that recommendation by saying that I would only buy an Otterbox case from either Amazon (sold by/shipped by) or Otterbox directly.

This was an interesting deal for me until I saw that it was a 3rd party Amazon seller.

Good luck!

Woah, that happened in 2013, that definitely explains why I've never heard about this. I only discovered Lifeproof around 2015.

I suspect at that time they were still selling through some of their more unique designs. I was a big fan of the LifeProof Nüüd but their later designs never really captured that mix of super-rugged protection that didn't also sacrifice the screen interface.

Good luck!

Otterbox may have been after their tech for their own product lines and kept Lifeproof for the name.

LOVE the Otterbox Symmetry series. Pretty much all I use. Many drops, never a break. The texture is good from the get go, but it really breaks in nicely after a few months. Its the only case Ive found that is smooth textured(esp after break in) without EVER getting greasy/smudgy.
