I have this for 6 weeks already. I like it more then I thought I would. I replaced CPU fan with vetroo V5 and rear fan with be quiet 92mm PWM. Extra $40 and definitely worth doing long term for extra airflow. GPU is mining when idle for 29.5 MH with -200core, +650mem,70 power limit and 53% fan speed (custom curve in msi afterburner). GPU temp 53C.

Clean windows install is a must.

Add the AMEX $120 off $599 and this is pretty hot.

For everyone who bought or is buying this, you should watch the Games Nexus review of this card! ( Just search "Dell GN GPU" it's a POS and I bought it myself. If you going to keep just the card, I would flip it before the 1 year warranty is up or of its possible a better heatsink and fan for the gpu. And I noticed there are so many of these Dell oem broken cards selling on ebay!

The power supply in the xps8940 is an odd shape
You're right. I can't upgrade with normal PSU. Dell has 500w PSU for $142. Going to have to pass.

Can anyone confirm the $120 off $599 AMEX offer does in fact apply to this deal?

This line in the AMEX offer terms makes me nervous:
"This offer does not apply to refurbished items, systems or spare parts and is not valid for online auctioneers, Professional Associations, or other Dell Member Purchase Programs."
When I begin the checkout process, Dell does refer to this system being in my "Member Purchase Program Cart". Any input is much appreciated! Smilie
Which makes no sense for AmEx. Dell Member Program is a free to join thing that doesn't offer any real perks besides free shipping.

I did a quick search for a 1660 super today and the gpu alone was coming in about this price, seems crazy but it is the current market.

Mining is way down. Dont expect much. My 3060ti gets barely $4 a day
you cash out your mining revenue daily? I doubt it. If you're looking at mining like a daily income then you are deceiving yourself. Should track how much ETH or BTC or whatever you are getting and then think a little longer term. Something like very low-key DCA for investing. Realistically you are better off to outright buy crypto right now but if you want a low-mid range gaming rig and will mine when it is idle then you can put some ETH away at 24MH/s (or whatever you can tweak it to get)

Good onboard graphics if you decide to flip the GPU, much better than previous gen.

Can anyone speak to what kind of gaming this machine can handle as is? What upgrades, if any, would you need to make it a capable mid-range gaming pc?
The 1660 Super is a solid midrange card. The biggest issues I foresee with this box are the thermals and the weak PSU. It's just asking for problems down the road and being proprietary pretty much means you won't be upgrading it to anything better.

I mine when computer is idle so the mining prices dont bother me.

Apologies, new to PCs...The product description says "8GB (1x 8G) 2933MHz DDR4 RAM (max. supported)." Does that indicate you can't add additional RAM (e.g., 8 additional to bring it to 16GB) or does that refer to something else?
There are totally 4 ram slots. The max ram is 32gbx4=128gb

So it only discounts one. I need 10 of these guys for a VR thing...Is there an easier way to get that price for 10 without having to setup 10 new email accounts?

After I ordered, I received the email from Amex to confirm it is qualified for $120 offer.

Yes another user commented you can find a 500w Dell PSU for $142, and could likely find another configuration of this XPS desktop that comes with one pre-installed.

There are a couple of things to note about the entire XPS line: Upgrading the CPU cooler and rear fan are a must, and I highly recommend moving the HDD bracket from the front slot to the top to improve airflow. With this configuration you would also want to factor in upgrading your memory to 16GB as well if you plan on gaming, but its current configuration, just with better cooling could likely serve as a decent budget pc for the time being.

Another note is like the PSU, the motherboard is proprietary so you can't just drop it into a roomier case without some serious alterations

Thank you.. overall it sounds like a PITA to upgrade.. I miss the old Dell PC where I can just swap a 3rd party PSU without the hassle..
