Small particles of sand gets under these, sticks to the bottom and rolling across the mat basically slowly sands the finish off the floor.
Floors were refinished two years ago and not a scratch under my chair.
I previously had a mat and the floor had significant damage beneath the mat after a few years.

My wife is using the Ikea one which seems doing good as well, $20 for a few inches larger than Costco's one.
And in fact, I don't want to roll like on glass, I like the mat has some traction for better rolling control.
The Ikea one even has a textured surface.
That being said, it is highway robbery that a sheet of 3/8" plywood costs $45 these days.
