How long does it take to receive the points after spending the required amount?
1-2 days after the statement cycle ends. If you happen to fulfill the requirements 2 days before the end of the cycle like I did, you may have to wait until the following cycle ends to see the credit.
Sometimes the thankyou site runs 10% off giftcards, if they carry any that'd be of value to you.
Much higher value potentially, for travel specifically, if you have a Citi Prestige or Citi Premier since that lets you transfer points to travel partners where you can get a lot more than 1 cent a point out of them.

Yes better than cash.
Thanks.
Whats a thankyou site?
Is it different from online.citi.com?
Wish it was Visa because Costco!
But I guess $500 isn't really that high….
Seems okay for a single person with no dependants, like even if I gotta get gas EVERY week and it's $100 each week, that's still $400, within the $500 limit.
Yes better than cash.
Thanks.

When you go to redeem rewards for stuff like gift cards when logged into your citi account it'll take you to the thankyou site which is where you spend the points
Citi makes activation unnecessary complicated; endless wait on the phone. During phone call to activate, customer service rep (CSR) said couldn't send sms code to my mobile phone (Google Voice number) & asked for a second number. I provided a T-Mobile number but that wasn't acceptable. Next CSR asked if I have another Citi credit card which I replied yes but it wasn't enough to complete activation. Next CSR asked for my bank account info. I declined to continue with this charade and asked to speak to supervisor. Supervisor completed activation without any additional request. The whole Citi security anti-fraud charade is a sham.
Linking card to existing account is also a pain.
@Citi, you need to take a page from Capital One & Chase technology playbook.
Really wish I could find a card that did utilities other than US Bank. I tried applying for the US Bank card and was denied with an 850 FICO
Elan Max Cash preferred is basically the same thing but less strict application. You have to get it from a smaller bank or credit union but there's a lot to choose from and doesn't necessarily need to be one that is local to you but you can probably find one that is just in case. Google it and there are some threads about which banks offer this

For credit card signups? Tons do. Chase, Amex, Cap One, etc... required spend is higher than $750 though.
