Yes, all credit card applications are hard pulls
09-07-2021 at 07:22 AM
No, not all credit card applications are hard pulls. Amex many times doesn't do a hard pull if you already have a card from them.

They did (according to credit karma) but surprisingly my score didn't go down

From my past experience with the same card, my score didn't go down.

It would be either groceries or gas, or whatever the one single category you spent the most on that month. Categories won't rotate like other cards. The verbiage:

Earn 5% cash back on purchases in your top eligible spend category each billing cycle, up to the first $500 spent, 1% cash back thereafter.

It rotates monthly according to your spending. The highest category in the month will return %5. Others will return less

When I got my bonus at the branch, the banker told me there was no end date she was aware of. My two Citibank branches had brochures on display about the $300 bonus in branch only.
It would hurt to go to branch and check with them.

cr3dit k@rm@ also has $300 with $1000 spend offer for this card

No you dont get to choose. It will automatically apply to the highest spend category each billing cycle.

Not an answer. Does this have a 5% fee for balance transfers?

limited to only $500 spend per billing cycle which equates to $25 cash back per month...

nice, but limited to such a small amount.
It is $500 per month so, $1500 per quarter same as Chase/Discover though not same as you can't do a big $1500 purchase.

How about buying stuff using paypal/ebay/amazon? That kind of sucks, unless you use this on one category, like buying gas on all time...

Even if you go to warehouse stores like BJ's or Sams, there is no category for this.

Seems like a useless card unless you use it for only one of the categories and you don't spend more than $500/month in that category.

EDIT: I can actually see some use for this for someone who doesn't spend too much in those categories but wants to maximize their cash back. Especially if you use mobile payments and don't have to carry the card in your wallet.

This isn't a bad single purpose card. When a person already has a few other reward cards, this one can be for anything that isn't on a bonus category.

Chase Freedom/Discover is $1500 per quarter (3 calendar months). It is the same maximum if you do utilize the cap per month. But Citi is more flexible because you can switch category each month.

So only one category will earn 5% each month?
