They are better than corresponding VEGA iGPU. The highest end Iris Xe Graphics present in Core i7, with 96 EU, can beat the VEGA 8 in Ryzen 5000U series whereas the Iris Xe in Core i5 with 80 EU, can beat the Vega 6 and almost equal to Vega 7, present in Ryzen 5 chips.

True, but you're also attributing no value to the fact that his laptop is lighter than a ipad with a keyboard and at 13" with carbon chassis... personally i would be interested in this laptop because it's perfect on the go and I can dock it to a eGPU when I get home.

And the 5% teacher/student/military discount stacks on this laptop but not the one in the OP, bringing the total to $1081.73 before tax!

How do the new Intel Graphics fare against the (very excellent) Vega iGPUs?

Marry me?

Just saved another $150 on this item (from 2 days ago) and then used my student discount to upgrade to touchscreen (which the last deal didn't have).

Just a heads up, according to mobiletechreview, the processor in this one is rated for ultra low power 7-15 W instead of 15-28W in the regular low power processor used in X1 Carbon/Yoga.

The Ryzen is a fine processor, but a $1000 laptop with 5Gbps usb is a bit lame..
The Intel-based here has (up to) 40Gbps USB4.

Except that is simplifying something complex as poorly as the post your responded to.

The model linked to has a processor that is fairly comparable (to the 1160); it will be faster for software than can leverage 8 cores instead of 4, but slower if software leverages 4 or less cores. The intel also has Thunderbolt whereas the AMD version does not, which is very useful for docks with more throughput than your average USB-C or external GPUs; one could be used for productivity and the other for gaming.
