I think the square footage is off and they are counting outdoor spaces and pools in their numbers.

Also, this is just the accommodations. You would still be on the hook for airfare, activities, and food (which I have heard prices are insane). This looks to me like a teaser entry to an escalator... a vacation easily totalling $12,000 or more.

Screw the drinking, I'm just going to sneak in some edibles. What are they going to do to send me to their Maldives prison?
The Maldives have extremely strict drug laws.

As a tourist with only personal use amounts, they'll most likely just deport you and forbid reentry, so if losing the thousands of dollars you paid to go there is worth it for a few edibles, go ahead, I guess.

Good Deal. I have been to the Maldives and wouldn't mind going back.
4.6K for an over the water bungalow is about 40%-50% off at that resort.

The Maldives is one of the most beautiful places in the world.

Food and drinks are super expensive. Make sure you bring your own booze.

It was $18USD for a cocktail.

$18 is not bad. It's often $12 in a US restaurant. I was thinking it might be more like $30 a cocktail.

We are allowed to bring our own alcohol?

I'm curious as to why there are so many comments of people saying your going to spend a ton on food. The buffets look great and include breakfast and dinner. How much Can a small meal at lunch cost ?? $30-$40 at most? So an extra $200. This deal seems fantastic for around 6.5-7k after pricing airlines.

Correct, you need to budget another $500-$1000 all in to cover meals, drinks and activities, remember your in the middle of no where, its rare you can go to other islands as they are other private resorts and

These are not budget resorts.

I came back from Bora Bora ( somewhat similar) and couples for 5 days were spending anywhere from $10K-15K not including flights.

If your just hanging out in a Villa for 5 days you will get bored really quick.

Just looking sea plane transfer is about $600 pp

All in including airfare your in very close to $10K ... Slick deal for your average person? I think not.
damn, some rich couples. mostly DINKs??

It's a Muslim county with Shia laws, you can't even bring booze off the resort.

Agree with your first sentence. Maldives is certainly expensive (say compared to Hawaii or definitely when compared to Cancun) -- but perhaps much cheaper than Bora Bora.

That said, people dont have to spend $1000/day to get a resort experience. Resorts can be had for as low as $300/day for two people (little children are included often for free) all inclusive for lower end of the spectrum -- you will still have an experience of lifetime. With transfer and plane tickets, it might come close to a bit of middle tier cruise experience in US. If you are planning to spend that amount of money ($5k for a family of 3 for a week) on a vacation, the main question is whether you want to fly close to 24 hours (airport stops/transfer included) to get there. 5 star airlines or not, it is an exhausting journey.
Can you tell me about these more affordable trips? I always trust people instead of articles, and I'd love to go. $500/day is acceptable.
