I think the square footage is off and they are counting outdoor spaces and pools in their numbers.

Also, this is just the accommodations. You would still be on the hook for airfare, activities, and food (which I have heard prices are insane). This looks to me like a teaser entry to an escalator... a vacation easily totalling $12,000 or more.

Bring some ramen noodles and you got lunch covered 😉.

Seriously, would love to get in on this if I could get away this year. Too much work atm.

We're usually more into adventure traveling so this "relax at the beach" vacation style may not be a good fit. Still, 4.7k for 5 days @ 5 star hotel, meals included, is crazy cheap.
Our recent trip to Seattle, hitting 3 national parks over 8 days, were a bit over $5k already.
Lol what did you spend 5k on in seattle!?

I always want to try one of those. But my question is what do you do there beside hanging out at the villa?

Heck no - and they do police it at customs as well to a good extent (think there's an x-ray check). This is a country where Sharia law informs most of the secular laws.

There must be something wrong with me because I rather put 5k towards a motorcycle or a used off road truck. I guess I'll never go here.

Best memories of a lifetime? I doubt it. There are better destinations and experiences than the Maldives to spend money on.

I was joking but we actually did this on our first trip to Europe (about 12 yrs ago). I heard food was expensive so I loaded up half a suitcase worth of instant ramen.
Got there, food was fairly expensive (partly due to bad exchange rate back then) but doable so we dumped the ramen and enjoyed our time. The worst was London. It was hot (summer) and I needed some ice. They don't usually serve ice so I bought a Coke to get a cup of ice. Gave the dude a $20 usd bill and he gave me 5 euros back in coin.

If you're looking for a great deal, go to Hungary by way of Paris. Hungary and surrounding countries are much cheaper than western Europe and are better IMHO. Less crowded and touristy. Tons of night life, history, culture, awesome food (Michelin starred level at $25/entree).
For beaches, hit Croatia (King's landing is there).

Why Paris? It's one of the cheapest European hubs available. You can do 1 or 2 nights in Paris as stopover to say you've been there and to minimize costs.

$18 is not bad. It's often $12 in a US restaurant. I was thinking it might be more like $30 a cocktail.
$18 x 40 = $720 for drinks only!.

Also expect to spend $100 min for each dinner.

But it was an amazing experience. Well worth it.

Unless you love being crammed in a airplane for about an long as your actual stay at the resort.... I think the maldives are a great vacation spot for that side of the world, but there are many other comparables within a few hour flight from the USA.
Virgin islands, Turks & c, Bahamas can be hit and miss, but there are some amazing areas there etc.
The only thing I don't think is close are those glass bottom over the water villas.... Does anyone know the closest one?

Ask yourself what you would be happier with on your death bed. I like both of those but i know theyre more projects than hobbies. People like us are always on the grindstone. Take the trip and get a new look at life. Magbe itll gove you some extra motivation when you come back.

Good deal, but adding 1200 for two of us for water airplane transfer, plus 1600 ($800 per person) was cheapest decent flight i could find to Male, comes out to $7500 just to get there.

I hit 3: Mt Rainier, Olympic, and North Cascades, in that order.

I loved them all but didn't get to properly see North Cascades (the easiest hike is 3miles+). I plan to go back in the fall. The colors are gorgeous that time of year. Here's an awesome video of it: https://youtu.be/GJfobSNdPEs

Washington national parks don't require appointment. I heard California parks are because of the reopening demands.

For the person asking how an 8 day trip in Seattle cost 5k, it's not Seattle but surrounding areas.

Car rental: ~$700. For most people it would be near $1k. I got lucky and got a great deal.

Flight: I got a great deal. $140/person round trip. Expect to pay around $300/person or more.

Hotels: ~$180/night incl all fees so about $1.5k

Food: 3 meals/day x 8 at various establishments. Food in Washington is surprisingly a bit more expensive than even SoCal. My tally was around $1k. Tacoma has some great steaks though. Well worth the price.

Miscellaneous: ferry fees, toll fees, gifts, gas, tickets to attractions like the space Needle, Chihuly garden, etc.

Jamaica, Cancun, Belize, lots of spots in the Carribean are building high end resorts now. Probably still just as pricey as the ones in Maldives or Bora Bora but... much shorter travel, no jet lag for east coasters, and for the most part they arent as far in the middle of nowhere as to leave you nothing to do but pay the one resort's exorbitant fees for all your dining and activities. You can find a ton of travel mags with reviews of these spots:
