We also use them around the perimeter of our deck. Since the wires are so small, you can slip them between the boards and they're out of sight. But test them a few nights before actually installing them to make sure they actually work. We learned that the hard way. Enjoy!

The railing on our deck is built where the railing cap is horizontal, and the top rail facing you is vertical. (sorry, had to google the terms) Deck Diagram [decks.com] Since each board is beveled, where the 2 meet up there is a gap between them. That's where we put the lights. I just stuffed some dead leaves in there to hold the string in place every 8"-10", then put clear caulk over on the string between them. I tried thumbtacks first, but the dead leaves actually worked better, but I'm sure there's a smarter method. When the silicone dried, I just pulled out the leaves!
