So you save $5 and spend $3 on shipping. Apple has free shipping right? What a deal. Let's see what prime day will bring or cyber Monday. I want to score one for $80.
Has anyone compared the first generation with mini? Is there a big difference? I prefer to buy the first generation.
The bigger one is definitely louder and has more bass. But the mini is working fine for us in bedrooms and kitchen. Siri is equally as frustrating on both.

Got 2 yesterday, I have the original HomePod. It's way smaller than I expected. The mini's have the same great clarity as the OG and wonderful resolution in the mid-highs. The bass is lacking, however two in stereo does add a lot. U1 handoff has been finicky so far, but I haven't played with it enough.
For music, it's not the greatest. For podcasts & smart home control it's amazing. Stereo on for TV is actually not that bad (tvOS 15 adds the ability to set it as default), but for movies it's the same situation as the music.
Anyone complaining about Siri is missing the point, HomeKit is way more powerful and stable than Alexa/Google. Asking Siri questions is always going to be worse than Google that owns Google Search, but for smart home control Siri is a beast. I use Spotify + Apple Podcasts, b/c I will on use my Mini for smart home/podcasts its honestly perfect, for my OG HomePod I do struggle b/c thats for music. Spotify still hasn't updated to Airplay 2 or supported native HomePod playback, they likely never will.
But for those comparing to the OG Homepod, to me, there is no comparison. I just picked up another original this week. Agreed with the other comments that the original Homepod sounds amazing (for what it is) with music. I struggled with my first Mini because it just doesn't sound nearly as good as our other two Homepods. It sounds fine for our master bathroom but it just couldn't fill the room in our home gym.
For smaller rooms (eg bathroom, bedroom) the mini works well.

I got these and plan to turn them into smart speakers with a 3rd gen echo dot for $30
Costs a bit more but sound is way better.
