Panel used here is N123NCA-GS1 with 406 nits average and 419 nits max brightness.
The Panel has 99.22% sRGB, 69% Adobe RGB and 67% DCI-P3 color gamut with a contrast ratio of 1822:1 (Black: 0.23 cd/m²)
Without any Hub or Dock, each of the Type-C port can drive 5K 5120x3200@60Hz or 2x4K displays at 120 Hz.
These can also be opened, unlike most other tablet on the market. The SSD is removable and you can access the battery if you need to replace it. The SSD is not as easily replaceable as the SSD on the surface pro x/7+. But it's nice to have the option should drive or battery fail.

I had the lower price but came back and now it's gone up...
Edit: nevermind, the stupid SD extension was auto-applying and overriding my coupon with an older THINKJUN one. That's aggravating.
THINKJUNDEAL replicates OP's $1,059

1. Use tablet mode with windows store apps when possible. This combination is optimized for power savings.
2. https://support.microso
Use the lowest power mode available and convenient. Use higher power modes when you need higher performance.
3. https://www.tenforums.c
Optimize power usage for longer battery runtime.
4. https://www.tenforums.c
Consider turning off connected standby network connectivity.
Otherwise, the Surface will wake in sleep mode and use up battery behind your back.
5. https://www.tenforums.c
Turn off Fast Startup, turn on Hibernation.
Use hibernate when not using the computer for awhile, else use sleep, to save battery.
6. https://support.microso
https://batteryuniversi
Read to understand how to take care of the Surface battery.
7.
https://docs.microsoft.
Turn it on if plugged in most of the time to A.C.
8. Screen brightness greatly affects battery runtime. Set to manual brightness, under 50% when comfortable.

Don't expect a nvidia miracle, but it'll run.
It will run better than the Tiger Lakes without xe gpu - E.g. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=P8y3oEH

MB Pro runs an Intel gpu, so currently 100% compatible with all software, drivers, equipment.
16" is a nice model - generous screen and keyboard. Very comfortable for long hours of use.
MB M1 anything.
Not 100% compatible with all apps, and some apps that run are missing features or have issues. Not compatible with all devices and such.
Due to the use of a mobile cpu derived processor.
https://isapplesiliconr
Anything that is not listed as m1 native runs through emulation and can be slower.
This website doesn't list individual app issues.
https://helpx.adobe.com/download-...-chip.html
Even popular apps that run fine on Intel Macs have issues.
Ie. Always have a backup (ie. School lab pc) to fall back on when doing things last minute when using a m1 mac.
https://forums.macrumor
M1 Macs run no faster than the MacBook Pro 16 across benchmarks, not even a 2020 iMac upgraded with a i9 cpu.

X12 up to 11 hour battery life based on Tom's Hardware review. Generally solid laptop with a detachable screen.
Not like the Lenovo Duet 7I with bigger 13" 3:2 screen, detachable wireless keyboard, and color sensing pen. (Cdw.com has stock) depends on if you prefer 16:9 to get movies to play full screen and multitask 2 apps side by side, or 3:2 to see a few more lines single tasking, but all movies play letterboxed.

Notebookcheck.net has reviews
runtimes.
https://www.notebookche
Compare vs lg gram (14, 16, 17"models) battery runtimes, which seriously run much longer than many other laptops out.
You'll only get between LOAD AND WI-FI runtimes in general, so rough real world of 2x load runtime is a good estimate.

Thin metal tablet stand!
If you use tablets on your lap, thighs will soon hurt!
Laptops and 2-in-1 with flat bottoms better then.
....
No idea what major, so can't give you a better idea.
In general, and 11th gen Tiger Lake Intel cpu with 8gb will do for the basics of grad school research, writing, video calls, Etc. 16gb better of you multitask heavily,, never close anything, zoom a ton.
Beyond that, if a fast gpu is need (eg CS major), hard pass and get a laptop with at least a 2060, if not a 3060 ($1100 3060 gaming notebooks Wal-Mart).
E.g. https://www.bestbuy.com/site/hp-o...Id=6412913
A very solid baseline pc laptop that does everything great.
...
Tablets and 2-in-1 have the benefit of tablet mode. Write notes, annotate with a pen easily.
E.g. Vs a laptop I have, my tablet pc let me annotate 1000s of pages of texts one semester far easier and quicker.
OneNote can record audio lectures sync'd to the notes, too. Can't write fast enough isn't a problem! Just click on any note to hear the sync'd lecture start playing from that moment.
...
Thin, small, very portable.
1 slim "paper notebook" is all you need to carry around. (Maybe a charger)
Macs are fat and 1lbs~ heavier.
(Even vs lg gram 14 at 2lbs, 3lbs Macs are 50% overweight)
