You can find generic melamine foam super cheap if you don't mind not having the bald guy on the box. Like 25¢ per bar. Just search amazon.

Keep in mind these clean using abrasion so are basically ultra-fine sandpaper. They have their uses, but will damage the vast majority of things

correct, most people won't look close enough to realize that is how they "clean"

They definitely have their purposes, on hard things that have a strong enough hardness rating (tile and glass). They will say it's fine on countertops which is NOT the case. I learned the hard way on my first home Frown

I have been using this on my granite countertop and it does a great job getting the shine back. Or am I making a huge mistake?

Magic erasers will eventually strip the sealant used to make the granite shine/waterproof.

I use Erasers to clean the kitchen sink, remove stubborn stains on durable dishes (stainless silverware, glass), shine windows and mirrors, and just about everywhere in the bathroom. They will damage non-stick cookware, and it will make clear plastic hazy because of the abrasion. For scuff marks, it will take the paint off your walls if you scrub too hard.

These last more than the bulk no name brands with 4x the quantity. Good for very hard surfaces or lightly rubbing on other surfaces.
