That refrigerator in specific is dis-continued model per LG.

I see people ITT saying not to go with LG or Samsung refrigerators. I can personally attest to the crappiness of Samsung fridges (ice build up issues) and I need to get mine replaced. What are the best brands I should go for?
Whirlpool seems to have the highest reliability ratings for refrigerators. I was doing a bunch of research on this before purchasing my French door. Of course, some models within Whirlpool might be better/worse than others but overall they seem to have the least amount of refrigerator service calls. I wasn't really sold on Samsung's compressor technology, and I ultimately steered clear of LG's linear compressor issues. They had the longest warranty as a result of the lawsuit but that did not make me feel better haha.

Most of the argument against certain brand of refrigerators like LG and Samsung are based on the volume of reported problems. The issue is these 2 brands also sold A LOT more refrigerators than other lesser brands, so using number of complains, ie: repairman's encounters, isn't very helpful.

The more useful statistic is percentage of breakdowns. Anyone knows a source of percentages of refrigerators going bad? I remember reading an article that LG and Samsung refrigerator reliability is actually quite high with the percentages of them going bad is quite low.

I'll add my LG fridge story to the mix....actually going through this right now. My LG fridge compressor just went out after only 3.5 years in. I bought the fridge from Costco on the costco visa so it was still under warranty for another 6 months but since the LG compressor issue is widespread (they just settled a class action suit), the warranty company knew LG has had to extend the warranty on compressors to 5-10 years and wants me to go through them for the compressor costs. But man is LG a crappy company. They have authorized repair shops but each of the four I called in the area either just don't respond or told me straight up that they do not repair LG fridge compressors (LG authorized repair shops don't repair LG fridges!?!?). LG wanted me to wait 5 days to hear back from the other authorized shops and then they'd start the process of getting approval for a non-authorized shop (which would take another 3-5 days). I gave in and had to get the repair done by a non-authorized shop and the guy that came for the repair said no one is willing to do the LG compressor repairs b/c LG is so difficult to work with. He mentioned they normally only pay like $250 for the compressor repair when the actual part alone costs $350 not including labor. And sure enough when I pressed LG harder via their twitter help, they first tried to offer me just $250. I still have the case open with them to get fully refunded for the repairs though. It's BS that they settled a lawsuit and extended the warranty only to make it as difficult as possible for people to actually use the warranty.

I had actually read the reviews of similar stories but saw that LG was still highly rated and recommended by consumer reports so gave it a shot. But the number of bad experiences with appliances is crazy these days. I also got a Samsung washer and dryer at the same time as this fridge even though there were Samsung washers that were exploding back then....lol. I think even old school appliance companies like Whirlpool and GE reliability has gone down since they're all having to keep up with each other to make the prettiest, cheapest stuff. Not even sure what I will get when this fridge does go out again (which seems like a certainty). Sucks that a $2k+ fridges are not even lasting 10 years.
did the non-authorized shop fix the problem? How much did it cost? surprising that a big company like LG has virtually nonexistent customer service…

Yep, the fridge went out a week ago on Saturday and after trying with LG over phone and twitter until Monday afternoon, we got it fixed by the non-authorized shop in a day. They came out same day few hours after we called to diagnose it and the next day to install the new compressor. Total cost was $850 for parts and labor. He said to keep fighting with LG and they should eventually give in but will just make it as difficult as possible hoping that you give up. I also submitted the claim with citi visa and will hopefully get something back from them although they said already compressor cost wont be covered.

One surprising thing is that although I told LG that I don't approve of the $250 compensation if that means they will not cover the rest of the repair, they still went ahead and sent out the check. My first reaction to that was that I guess that can be considered compensation for the food we had to throw out. Hopefully I'll come out a little better than the $850 paid for the repairs since I'm preparing to have to toss thing thing out next time it goes out. I'm contemplating getting a home shield warranty as well since we're coming upto 4 years in our new home and the warranties for all the appliances I bought at costco will be ending.

Just wanted to share our experience with LG fridge. Ours is a high-end model.
. Within 3 years it needed a condenser replacement.
. 2.3 years later, it failed again. $125 pre-paid for dispatch a tech + $250 for labor. Appointment took 10 days. New condenser + new compressor replaced.
. A week later, the fridge started making noise, and stopped working again. Took another 10 days for the tech. New condenser + new compressor + new evaporator + new controller replaced.
. Lost all food 3 times. No compensation for food lost.
. We had to buy a Samsung fridge for spare.
For us, no more LG fridge, ever again.
Hey I went through the (first) compressor swap a couple weeks ago, there is a class action lawsuits against LG regarding their faulty compressors if you aren't aware. The lawsuit period is closed but LG is supposedly honoring extended claims and also money back for lost food, I assume you tried? I can link you the page if you need.

The LG inverter model fridges had some serious reliability issues, "models sold 2014-2017" iirc. There was a class action lawsuit

On the LG fridge: I'm never getting a major appliance from one of these huge companies again. LG fridge had that stupid linear compressor go out after about 3 years, replaced under an extended warranty. LG range LED panel started to have some bars go out after about 2 years (meaning you couldn't tell the time or how much time is left on a bake), and now at maybe 5 years old, the temperature sensor or the relay is out, so the stove doesn't really work properly. I'm looking for extended warranty paperwork before I'm likely forced to tear it down. Also, I've had 3 Samsung appliances, one so bad that they had a recall (washer that literally blew up). I'm down to 3 fridges in the house (from 4), and the next ones from here on out will be major brand (or even pro-sumer)

This. Had an almost identical situation with our high-end LG Refrigerator. We've had 3 condensers put in in less than 3 years. 5 service visits total because the fridge stopped working. More spoiled food than I can count. We're part of the class action lawsuit against LG to get our money back for this disaster.

Never will I ever buy another LG product of any sort.

Wondering the same. In the market for a fridge.
I would stay away from LG appliances. Our home came with almost all new LG things. All of them broke down within a few years. To be fair, the fridge did last the longest around 10 years until the freezer stopped working. All the others lasted 2-3.
