Roku and You-Tube TV have a dispute that does not allow the You-Tube TV app to work on that platform. I am able to use previously registered Rokus with the app but not the new Roku Tvs or Roku Media Players.
For those of you with existing Roku, you can check your offers directly in your menu settings. I had an offer for this for $24.99 with free shipping (yes this is for the 4k+ and not the HD version). YMMV of course but worth the shot to check your account!
It can be accessed through YouTube though. Sort of a workaround.

One thing this player can do that the stick cannot is you can add usb ethernet to it. Even the fire tv Ethernet adapter works.

Regular YouTube works fine?

Deceptive (at best) sound description is Dolby Digital 2.0 (stereo) only

Amazon page says plays "Atmos", Roku say surround sound which is a minimum of 5.1. According to Roku chat is DD 2.0 stereo only. Worst part is has settings for DD+5.1 & DTS and tried to get working which was a complete waste of time.

Use the youtube app, at the bottom left there is a link to youtube tv. Any "extra" step but not awful!

Thanks for mentioning this, I currently have a Roku Stick, and was going to upgrade it to an ultra or just something a bit quicker in general, was going to stick to roku--but I remember reading about that google/roku issue. I thought nothing of it when i started to use that tv a bit more again since it was registerd with Youtube Tv well before any of this popped up.

Guess that makes my decision easy to just get a GoogleChromecast with Android TV or whatever its called haha.

This does not have Atmos but it will pass through dd+ or DTS if your receiver supports it. Now the problem is dd and that is app dependent and you may get synthetic 2.0. if you connect to tv first then arc to receiver you must have the chain setup but if your audio receiver doesn't support dd+ then you should use DTS only as you will get matrix sound. To simplify the setup I would connect the receiver to the Roku then the tv. My old Samsung tv won't do arc properly and I really tried. Also I have read turning on volume levelling causes some issue with arc and some Dolby decoding but I haven't seen this.

It really sucks I had to get rid of my 9 year old Denon because it didn't support dd+ and a lot of the newer apps do that natively and there is no conversion you either decode dd+ or not. That is where DTS can help, it's less restrictive than Dolby codecs.

There is a workaround in place that Google implemented for YouTube TV. You can access YouTube TV via the YouTube app for now. This means new Roku customers can still access YouTube TV via the YouTube app. Hope that clears up any confusion.

My fire Tv is getting old, and won't support NBC sports any more, so I need to upgrade.
Is Roku the best streamer out there? Or am I better off sticking with Fire since I have Amazon prime? I do basic stuff, Netflix and mostly sports apps. Don't need YouTubeTV
