Originally published in 1968, Ursula K. Le Guin's A Wizard of Earthsea marks the first of the six now beloved Earthsea titles. Ged was the greatest sorcerer in Earthsea, but in his youth he was the reckless Sparrowhawk. In his hunger for power and knowledge, he tampered with long-held secrets and loosed a terrible shadow upon the world. This is the tumultuous tale of his testing, how he mastered the mighty words of power, tamed an ancient dragon, and crossed death's threshold to restore the balance.

This ebook includes a sample chapter of THE TOMBS OF ATUAN.

If you ever wondered where J K Rowling got all her ideas... look no further.

I wish they published the whole omnibus at a reasonable price ($47 for the set of books is a bit steep)...

You clearly don't read much of this genre. The author before her passing was only upset JK didn't admit she was inspired by this series. She admits even her ideas aren't original as they all borrow from others such as Tolkien.

As a young child I also read many of Ruth Manning-Sanders' books. I saw lots of JKR thievery from those too, although even RMS' stuff was based on folklore. JKR probably just decided she didn't want to share any of her profits by giving credit to anyone else. It's hardly illegal but as someone who was raised on something other than Harry Potter it was a bit galling to watch unfold.

I don't mind if they borrow from others ideas so long as they build something different enough for me to enjoy. Reading this book does make you wish she spent a little more time while he was at school, but JKR does a great job of expanding on it. The king killers take is also fun as well. I do wish JKR would pay homage to those authors before her that helped build on this genre. I do know what you mean though.
