long time user of c by ge...these are now cync as ge sold this division off awhile ago- and these are the ultra old model of these bulbs- they'll connect just fine to google home, but alexa/amazon will not connect to these models unless you use ge's smatch switch to connect them (they're bluetooth, google home is and alexa is not).

just an fyi on that, it's a little subtle in the listing and newer ones ARE directly alexa compatible.

Can you use these as regular bulbs controlled by a regular light switch? Will settings be stored when switched off?

It requires a purchase of a hub to work.

I got the full color option - my question is that can I put these in my kids room and just use the app to change colors or does it require the hub to even do that?

I don't think you need a hub if you have a google home device.

Question:
I have a google nest mini, Can I turn these off from just the google home app without a smart plug?
Answer:
Hi there thanks for your question. The mini acts as a hub so it should be able to control the lights with just voice. If you have any further questions reach out to our support team.

I had purchased these...I have google mini and google home all over the house and I wasn't able to connect properly for google home/voice. YMMV

Would like verification, can the bulb be controlled while in the room through the app/wifi. I realize if outside the home one would need a hub however can someone comfirm there is ability to change colors etc while nearby.

You can use them that way. Although, it remembers the last brightness setting and stays that way unless you use the GE app to change it

Bought full color. Great deal! Does anyone know if they work with SmartThings?

I'd be really surprised if these require a hub. I'm guessing that the GE App just links to the Google Home and Alexa App just like most other smart bulbs. Anyway, it's nice to have a mix of smart plugs and bulbs but I kinda like to keep everything in the same family so I went with TP Link when Wally cleared them out.

As the owner of a ton of smart devices I'm going to offer these perspectives:

1. Smart bulbs are generally bad. Smart switches are much better.
2. Smart bulbs require the switch be turned on. Do you think everyone in your home or who visits your home will never turn the switch off? You're definitely wrong (though maybe you don't care when your bulb won't run its automation or respond to a voice command and you need to go flip the switch again)
3. wifi in any smart devices (like these bulbs) is horrible. Get a hub and run z-wave (or, if you must, zigbee).
4. YMMV - there will surely be people who disagree, maybe pretty strongly, with statements like my strongly worded and strongly held opinion that "wifi + smart == terrible"
