You might want to look into Starlink. They've been rolling out coverage to more areas. I would have signed up when I was out in the woods had it been available then.

Prior to a couple of weeks ago, I owned the original theatrical on Bluray disk and the extended editions on HD digital.

To make a long story short, I bought all 6 movies for $5 a piece individual 4K non extended to watch with my younger sons and am very impressed with the picture quality (fanflix deal). Transfer are great IMO.

These were filmed on 5k, 3d cameras at 48fps. I didn't love the movies themselves but I watched them in a theater with a world class projector that was capable of displaying them in full fidelity and they were the most visually stunning films I've ever seen.

We're these remastered into 4K from the 35mm or are they just upconverted?

Wonder how the digital compares to the physical discs... This is certainly cheaper!

There's no way to download these is there? My issue is slow internet so streaming 4k is unfortunately not an option. Wish they'd bring fiber to the woods. Lol

I've definitely looked into it, but I'll be moving soon. If I didn't I would definitely get it. It's just DSL at 10M here. Lol

Does anybody know anything about the "sound" for the digital copies on these various platforms? Dolby Atmos, 5.1 Surround, DTS-X, etc.

If you click through to the individual movies in the set, they say 4K.

My memory is foggy but didn't we have just a little while ago 6 movies for $40 or was it $50? I didn't want to get that people claimed no point getting hobbit movies, I was really interested in the original trilogy extended editions and this seems like a great deal. Are these MA?

Nevermind those weren't 4K. I'll get these to add to my collection. I hope these streaming services don't disappear one day and take our movies with them...

Well that's a misconception, what they were filmed in isn't what tells how good the PQ is, it's the transfer of the movie that dictates that the most.

For the most part these got a reference transfer AND object based soundtracks which is also reference!

Unfortunately on digital you lose much of the benefit especially on the AQ end.

Decisions, decisions. Do I grab this for $25 or the 4K boxed set for $60? Can anyone speak to whether there's any appreciable (read: noticable) differences in PQ?
