I already bought and played through it at full price. It's still kind of expensive but the standalone campaign is a good challenge.

Graphically on the overworld map and battle sequences it looks like a GBA game (I'm fine with 2D but frankly I could do without the overly pixelated look) but the the menus, character portraits, conversation screens, and story sequences all look modern. I'm only 30 mins in and completed the first battle and have a good first impression.

picked up the expansion myself btw. ive already beat the crimson flower route, now playing through blue lions on maddening. love this game.
