4.0ah at 18v is same run time (technically energy) as 6.0ah at 12v.
So really does come down to other things like form factor or if you want to invest in a particular battery platform.

I had the m12 vacuum m18 standard and m18 pack out. I ended up with the m18 standard.
If you're on the m12 platform and plan on sticking with the m12 then I say go for it, the suction is very comparable to the m18 standard and pack out. The only reason I didn't want it is because the m12 drains much faster than the m18. The m12 is much quieter though on low. On high I would say it's like 20% quieter than the m18 standard on high.
Another big reason I went with m18 standard was because of the size, the m12 is maybe like 15% smaller than the m18 it's about just as tall and a bit more narrow. So based on my personal situation I have like 7 m18 batteries, the standard 5.0xc will last like over 20 mins with the m18 standard. Also the m18 has a longer hose. I have a bunch of m12 batteries but mostly the little ones 2.0.
And if you're curious about the pack out that one was the biggest let down, I sold my m18 standard to a family member before I even got my m18 pack out In the mail lol big mistake. I had to rebuy the standard m18 but that's before I tried out the m12. The pack out is much heavier, no noticeable increase in power same noise level, maybe louder. The ONLY reason I would want a pack out is for the pack out system. Other than that it's a loser for me in every way.
But over all advice I would 1000% recommend anyone who is interested in a cordless vacuum like this to get one I have so many Milwaukee tools and the vacuum is probably one of my top tools I regretted NOT buying years ago. Super convenient with the power and suction of corded, great tool!

What I was explaining is the purpose of each vacuum. The Dewalt 2 gallon seem to get no love in here just because of its lower suction power. Like I said, the Dewalt was built on a particular purpose in mind... it was made for endurance or very long runtime but penalize by lower suction power. The purpose of the Dewalt vacuum is the vacuum you bring anywhere (outside the shop) where there is no power outlet. You directly attach this vacuum to your tool (miter, router, circular saw, handheld planer etc) and let it run continuously since it can run for long and doesn't overheat like the M12 vac.
Don't get it wrong, the Dewalt may have lower suction power but it still can suck shavings of wood, small nails, and what not.

That is not what this little M12 vacuum is designed for. Choose the right tool for the job instead of dissing one because it is not right for the job that you are doing.
