Need help on deciding between Macbook and IPad Pro for 1st year college student. Do most kids these days take notes on computer or good ole pen and paper? Majoring in biology (for now at least). Thanks!
Surprisingly she's not against a Windows laptop (She says no Surface since it pinched her finger once)

I ordered custom macbook air seems like it got shipped from china, is that normal?
Yeah that's where they're made. If you ordered stock it may drop ship from the US.

The answer is both. Why would you expect any different from Apple?

iPads are terrible for multitasking and sub-optimal for extended writing. Macbooks are not portable or useful for creative tasks or note taking.

If you're averse to purchasing both devices and Surface isn't the answer, then a good 2 in 1 windows laptop like the Dell XPS line is probably the way to go.

MacBooks are very much portables. I don't see why xps is a portable and MacBooks are not. Windows 2 in 1 are useless because windows as a tablet sucks. There is practically zero benefit of having a windows tablet so you are better off buying a decent windows laptop for what it's worth. I have used iPad Pro for extensive note taking and they work just fine. I guess you have a different experience.

That isn't what I said at all.

Compared to an iPad, a MacBook Air is not as portable.

Writing a long paper in college is not a task best suited for an iPad, at least not for most.

Coding, research, anything which requires more than 2 apps open at a time will not be pleasant on an iPad.

Obviously, for note taking, an iPad is ideal.

You can get away with serving both on windows with a surface device or one like it.

I don't know many iPad owners who don't also have a laptop, and in a college setting, most kids I know lug around both.

FYI... if someone is interested in buying this from Bestbuy, I called them and they matched this deal. $899.99 for Macbook Air and free Airpods. They have $130 Apple competitor discount coupon in their system for this price match. I went with Bestbuy because of AMEX offer of spend $50 get $50 back from earlier this year.
I just tried via chat and was told while they could check about price matching, they could not provide the free airpods.

I am exactly going through the same thing, we went to the Apple Store to try out and see what works and now it depends what major your child is going to be in. We settled for iPad 11 Pro with Magic Keyboard and Apple Pencil , this was more convenient but not cost effective. $1147 + tax (iPad Pro 11 128GB, Apple Pencil, Magic Keyboard, Airpods). My kid is majoring in biology as well.

Ordered 21th. The expected delivery is 25th-29th. Call them and try to expedite the delivery if possible(birthday gift). The attitude and professionalism are far behind than what I expected that Apple should do. Actually, it's hard for me to believe that they need several days to process the order since those mac air are not even customized. Also customer "specialist" is laughing all the time when I describe the situation seriously. No professionalism at all. Very disappoint with Apple.

Good deal! Just put my Airpods through the washer on accident, and it didn't make it this time around. I was also looking to upgrade my 4-year old iPad as well Smilie

Hopefully your order also isn't shipped with Deliver-It. If it is, I just wish you luck, and lots and lots of patience.
