I mostly use mine for consuming content bought on Amazon. Prime Video, Audible and a ton of paid apps that were free back in the long gone era of the Free App per Day for their app store. Kindle books with lots of graphics work better than on my Paperwhite.

waiting for appraisal i would miss the prime day.. typically can get this to work but not seeing it this year
I also have an iPad Air. The fire is a quarter of the price but even making allowances for the price difference, the Amazon tablet is a disappointment. The base iPad is also much better.
I also compared it to my base iPad 10.2. They run just the same to me. So, far it's been great.

In my experience, I'd get the % off coupon shortly after I printed out my return label and they gave me the 'Instant Credit" for my trade-in. (fwiw-I have an established account in good standing.)
If you check those old trade-in threads, there were a few people who said it didn't work but I don't know what their situations were. New accounts? Maybe wallet/payment issues?
If you don't get the % off coupon by Prime Day, you could always just cancel the trade-in.
