I'm waiting for a deal on the Plus version of this 2021 tablet. It has 4 GB of RAM instead of 3 GB and adds wireless charging.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08F6FYN6B

Interested to see if you can add a Trade-in on the web (save 20% and currently offering $30 more for my last generation 10" Fire Tablet) and then order with Alexa?

It looks like you can still load the Google Play Store on this new version of the tablet:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=beC8NlF0H2w

I mostly use mine for consuming content bought on Amazon. Prime Video, Audible and a ton of paid apps that were free back in the long gone era of the Free App per Day for their app store. Kindle books with lots of graphics work better than on my Paperwhite.

Added to cart with Alexa and it shows the $70 discount but doesn't credit me for my 20% trade in or the $15 credit for using Amzn Photos. Can't use the $10 Discover promo either.

In the same boat as others - 20% trade-in would not apply until item received.
Chat said place the order at $79.99 and they will automatically refund me 20% once delivered (6/21).
So I pulled the trigger.
I submitted trade-in today. Then did chat, to see if I could also duplicate your method and place order first and get 20% refund later. But agent was no help and told me to wait till trade-in completed before ordering Frown Will try again later with new chat.

what a logic LMAO
Honestly, better than forced obsolescence from Apple. Friend gave me an old iPad that was in perfect condition, great screen, etc. Figured it would be great for YouTube and browsing the web. Nope. YouTube needs to be updated before you can use it and it wouldn't allow you to update YouTube without updating iOS, and...nope, can't update iOS because the device is too old. fark Apple.

Thanks OP! Ordered one for my son. He has been using my Galaxy 7+ tablet for a while now so hopefully he'll love this one. He has had a Fire Tablet for 4 years and it's not up to par with today's games. Hopefully, this one can play a few good titles.

In my experience, the budget device with a budget price isn't worth it. I have 3 of these things that never get used, don't stay charged long, and are so damn slow. Not worth the $50-$80 paid. My 5 year old iPad is still used every day and lasts forever on a charge, paid maybe $280 for it? Not comparing fires to a $1000 iPad
The funny thing is this...sell that iPad to someone and they won't be able to do shit. All apps will require an iOS update which Apple won't allow on an older device. It's planned obsolescence. It'll work fine for you, but if you wanted to upgrade to a newer iPad and sell your mint condition iPad, it's basically a paperweight..

On the flip side..

I pretty much use my 4 year old Amazon tablet for streaming movies from the various streaming services. These apps work great. So if you just want to do something like that you may be able to get a weak tablet like this to serve you for at least a few years.. maybe even a few more.
No, I am not a big fan of watching video on a phone or tablet. Maybe if I replace it I can turn it into a digital photo frame. I think it should handle that fine.

You can just do Youtube through the web browser, add a shortcut to the homescreen for easy access. Even Android has issues updating to certain apps, I couldn't install some camera monitor apps on older devices.

I have the 2019 HD10 which I find pretty slow to operate and for apps to load up. Is it worth to trade in and get this? Or would the plus model with 4gb make more sense if it goes on sale?

Still remembered seeing the brand new iPad 2nd gen in 2011, I was very impressed. Then I saw the 3rd gen with the Retina display and even more impressed!!!!!

It was still working that way for 'most' people last Prime Day (Oct. 2020) and during Black Friday.
In my experience, I'd get the % off coupon shortly after I printed out my return label and they gave me the 'Instant Credit" for my trade-in. (fwiw-I have an established account in good standing.)

If you check those old trade-in threads, there were a few people who said it didn't work but I don't know what their situations were. New accounts? Maybe wallet/payment issues?

If you don't get the % off coupon by Prime Day, you could always just cancel the trade-in.
I don't remember if I traded the old tablet in with charger or just the tablet itself. Thinking to do the same trick again but I can't find the original charger

Thanks for sharing, in for 2. I know it's not an iPad but it works for us. I bought one last year in an Amex deal on a whim... then ended up using it for webex for my daughter's virtual school all year. When her HD8 tablet started acting a little wonky with apps, my daughter essentially stole my HD10. My kids basically just play Minecraft and Roblox at this point so this is perfect for them... and I can get my tablet back. I was going to get the HD10 Plus, but honestly don't see the need at this point.

If it was an iPad 2, I have one of those and it is obsolete. It can run youtube on browser but not stable and crashes all the time. Most other apps can't be updated and won't run at all.

I also have the old HP Touchpads (installed Android) and Windows pad Winbook TW802. They all became obsolete and can't handle the latest apps and videos.

My point is getting a new tablet every couple years is the best way to deal with this issue.
iPad is great if you use iPhone or Apple Watch since they are all connected. Of course you pay more.

Other reputable tablets are good too. Samsung tablet can last a few years. This Fire tablet is a no brainer for $80 even you can only get 2-3 years out of it.

why is apple your standard . . . i have never viewed apple as my option in the first place.

amazon on the other hand did deprecate their phones and pads in the past. if I am able to take out amazon garbage off the tablet and just have android that would make the tablet last much longer. the last time i gave amazon a chance was with their phone and tablets, and that was a disaster.

I have several old laptops that run very old OS and some Linux . . . that is the great thing when software and hardware are independent, but when one stars to luck things up for "my protection", that is when I am out. I should not have to search the internet on how i can access a device that belongs to me in the first place.

Is there a way to get the apps to install on the SD card? I have a previous Fire Tablet and it wont allow 90% of the apps to be installed on the SD card so the 32GB of storage fills up pretty quickly.
It is never recommended to install apps on SD card. I use it for media.

If you need more space BUY A DIFFERENT TABLET.

I used about 27GB out of my 32GB.

Same thing happened to me.

I figured out a work around to install an old version of youtube.

Three years ago I purchased a keyboard that came with a FREE ipad. I got a refurbished 1st GEN that came with a One Year Warranty from Apple. Could not use the play store, this thing was a piece of shit.

I could not understand how I can have an item with a full one year warranty and nothing on the item works... no youtube, no security updates, no playstore. This is APPLE and not the keyboard company (Roland) who allowed this to happen.

I used this tablet as a trade in for my Fire HD10 2019... no regrets.

There is a reason. 1. BUILD QUALITY 2. CPU POWER (even the best android in the world that sells for $1k does not beat the processing power of apple. 3. Apps.. apple suppose to have the best apps 4. UPDATES... apple updates are about 9 years... INCREADABLE!!!! 5. Apple Eco System.

Lets call a spade a spade please. Apple is the superior product and at just $300.00, I would consider this a BARGIN.

I personally am anti apple, I don't like their eco system. I would NEVER buy a apple product. I would also NEVER buy a ipad for my kid... to afraid my kid will fall in love with the apple eco system.

OK... The new fire HD10 is no slouch or the 2019 model which uses the same CPU. It is a LOW END TABLET but today's low end tablets are decent. The MT8183 CPU is pretty good.

AND WITH XDA AMAZON TOOL BOX... you need a PC, you can disable (can not delete) all Amazon apps and make this thing have ZERO running bloatware and run like stock Android.

But realize this is ANDROID 9 (NOT 10 OR 11). And Android 11 allows you to change the size of any picture in picture mode that you are using and makes watching something in this mode so much better.

If you are savy enough (NOT EASY) and IF POSSIBLE (currently not possible)... if there is ever a LINAGE version for this tablet and you can get it unlocked and rooted... you will be able to extend the life of this tablet. Currently this is available for version PRE 2019 (so the 2018 version you can do this.. but this tablet is SUPER SLOW).
