We also use it to make fresh jams from frozen berries or fruit that is about to turn.
A decent price, though bought mine from a SD in Oct, 2019 @ $219.95 w/ no tax from FocusCamera.com of all places.
They have lots of recipes on the site though almost any found online can be converted and the recipe book that comes with it is almost Marth Stewart quality.
Here's my recipe for my "ultra loaf" which produces basically the largest loaf the 1lb machine can make:
230g water
320g bread flour
10-14g butter
5g powdered milk
6g salt
8g sugar
3.5g yeast
Bake on program "2".
BTW, $255.98 is a good price right now, especially considering they were OOS on Amazon for much of 2020.

PS: if doing ingredients by weight feels weird, Zojirushi has a mail in offer for a free (inexpensive) scale -- works great.
If you thing Costco's bread is good enough, you can't save money from making bread by yourself considering the time and tool you invest.
On the other hand, if you want to get a very fresh bread, then this one saves you a lot. In fact, I think bread, just like coffee, is only good in the first 30min after cooking finishes.

As a break maker, it has premium quality. The loaf pan itself is heavier than a cheap bread machine. And it has two kneading blades, very rare now. Two blades knead much better and faster than the single version.
The kneading blades, however, are in bad quality. I have replaced three blades in the past three years. Fortunately, it's quite cheap, and you can buy this part directly from the manufacturer and shipping is free. I think it's a design flaw.

Weighing your ingredients is the way to go.
Keeping your yeast refrigerated or frozen is critical. ( but make sure get it to room temperature)
My Favorite is the HAC-10. I get them off Craigslist usually for usually less than a $100 bucks.
I like to measure out the dry ingredients into ziplock bags and have multiple ready to go. One time hassle. Can freeze them too. Then just add water /butter or oil pour in the dry ingredients add yeast. start and 3 hours later ready to go.
Key note- keep track of your recipes if mix is smearing after 5 minutes of mixing or not forming a ball add a tablespoon of flour at a time until stops smearing around bottom.
Also this measuring cup makes it so much easier too..

But it's directly from Amazon, so I wouldn't worry about it much, if you're concerned, just look it over
If these are being faked
You get two to three days of sandwiches from fresh bread followed by a day or two of garlic bread/French toast… then croutons/bread crumbs. It tastes amazing when it's fresh and is usually too hard to eat by the end of the week.
Commercial breads typically have preservatives and/or hydrogenated oils and stay soft until mold takes over.
Whether it's cheaper really depends on what you're looking for.
