I think that is incorrect on the Amazon site and it is USB 3.2. The only WD_Black 5TB external in the Western Digital site is USB 3.2. I have the 2TB and it is definitely 3.2.
its 3.2 gen 1 which is just 3.0.. which really doesn't matter because its fast enough to cover this HD's speed.

Fortunately, I don't think a "cloud" connection is required to use this drive.
With any backup drive, I think it's best to connect when you want to backup, backup, and disconnect. Less convenient but I sleep better.
Of course, if this is being used for game storage with Xbox or Playstation, theoretically your games can be restored.
