I uses one of these to automate my Christmas lights every year. Super easy and the schedule works well. It even calculates power consumption and cost.

Sorry I'm so old & clueless, but could I attach this to a light for instance and turn it on and off with an app on my cellphone? I saw it was rated for 15 amps and was hoping I could turn on a small window air conditioner to cool off a room before I got home.

I don't believe there's actually a fee any more. The issue is the encryption requirements are way higher for homekit which means you need a better processor and the cheap ones aren't capable enough. Could be wrong though

Yes, you can buy a smart plug and plug anything you want into the smart plug. I got a Wyze plug for $7-8 each (pre-Covid-shortage price), and plugged my old stereo into it and used the Wyze app to automatically schedule the stereo to play music every day at a certain time. Just make sure your Air Conditioner amp-load is 15A or less.

This Eufy smart plug for $9 seems like a good price if you ignore that you've paid $119 for the membership. But without Prime membership, the Wyze smart plug [wyze.com] is by far a better deal.

Anyone buying apple in 2021 gets what they get. The m1 silicon is nice but everything else is so expensive for what you get their marketing is "we value your privacy" lol. Not hardware, not tech, we won't sell your data is their new marketing schtick. They've been selling 2 year old tech at a premium for years now. And people eat it up. I will give them the hardware FEELS nice. But c'mon you can do better.
