The sony xm4 and better noise cancelling. The sound isn't nearly as good, but close enough for most people I think. It's the only one that I was willing to give up the Sennheisers for in lieu of the other features the XM4 boasts.
The sennhesier does a good job of blocking background noise on calls, but the Sony is better. However, the Sony mic gets distorted when it's blocking out background noise (I assume this will be fixed with a firmware update)
The XM4 has eerily good ANC. I could never get my right ear to seal no matter which ear tip I used, including aftermarket. So although the ANC was good, the right ear always leaked in sound. Making the Sennheiser not very far off.
The Sennheisers have better passive noise cancelling because they stick in your ear further.
One thing that REALLY irks be about the Sennheiser is call sound quality with both buds in. It's terrible. So I only take calls with the right earbud in. Which wasn't as big of a deal as I thought because I usually only use one ear bud for calls anyway. But it was kind of annoying.
Active hear through is more natural on the Sony, but sometimes a little weird.
Battery life about the same, but if you use LDAC on the Sony... and you should then it falls a couple hours short of the Sennheiser.

One thing that worries me is l've heard the size of the case is a little bulky, would you say these are comfortable to place in jean pockets without bothering you too much while walking?
That being said you will have some pocket bulge with these and it's definitely less than ideal. The superior sound quality makes up for it in my opinion and you can get 7 hours of battery life without the case. So you could always leave the case home and slip the buds in your pocket. Although they wouldn't be protected. It's a definite drawback, I won't lie.
The only pocketable cases I've found are the Jabra Elites and the Buds Pro. The rest are meh.
Time to bring back cargo pants amirite? jk don't do that.
Where it was a concern for me is that I like to take calls in different ears depending on which side my kids are sitting so I can hear them. Minor inconvenience. If the WF-1000XM4 didn't hurt my ears after an hour I may have sacrificed some sound quality to go with them. But they're the least comfortable earbuds I've ever worn.
I've been going back and forth between these and the WF-1000XM4. Any thoughts on their direct comparisons? Thanks.
But the TWS2 are literally in a category far above what anyone else is doing. That being said, I was willing to sacrifice the sound quality of the WF-1000XM4 for things like being able to use each earbud independently and better noise canceling.
However, the WF-1000XM4 hurt my ears after less than an hour of wearing them to the point that it's distracting when I'm trying to work.
The Sennheiser excel in sound quality and it's borderline unbelievable by how much. The WF is the better overall bud and would be my bud of choice if it weren't for the comfort issues. YMMV though on the comfort. Plenty of people don't have issues.
Sound stage and instrument separation on the Sennheiser are beautiful. I can't help but groove to almost anything I listen to on them. Other earbuds are enjoyable, but I don't get immersed in the sound.
I would still recommend the XM4 for what you want to do.

But if I could. They would be the best. The Bose QC is probably close to tied and I could get those to seal no problem.
The Sennheiser goes deeper in your ear than most earbuds, thus the passive noise cancelling is excellent. But the difference between that and ANC on is only slight. I didn't notice a big difference between it and the Sony with my wife watching TV next to me. Both let in enough noise that I needed music playing at a decent level to completely drone it out and wasn't a deal breaker for me.
I also don't use foam tips with the Sennheiser which I believe is what gives sony the edge.
But if you value ANC over sound quality the Sennhesier is not for you. Sennheiser is literally only for someone who wants the absolute best sound and is willing to sacrifice other features like using the left ear bud independently, sleeker design, better ANC, etc...
For me, how good these sounds is night and day with any bud I've tried. And totally worth it. But I love music like it's one of my kids.
If you want something waterproof get the active 75t. If you want something that sounds better and has better ANC get the 85t.
They're both similar, but waterproof would be the deciding factor for me. If I didn't care about that I'd get the 85t.
Generally, I favor in ear buds and hate bulky over the ear headsets but I had a very specific needs here: wireless, ANC and amazing microphone.

That's odd. I have both and work with others all around me and I use the jabras, pixel buds and TW2 and found the TW2 and Jabra difference non existent as far as Microphone and filtering. TW2 blows the Jabra out of the water in sound quality though. The pixels buds were the worst but I love them for comfort. I just love the pixel buds especially if you own a pixel phone. Not the best audio microphone though.
