I know a lot of people talk smack about the S, but man, I love mine, I'm not one to pixel count, so as long as the game I'm playing is 1080p, I'm fine, looks great on my LG CX, especially when the games are still kicking at 60fps or better.

Also travels well, I'm able to throw it in my bag next to my laptop when I travel and it's great for hotel downtime.
I have no problem with the S's performance. If that were the only difference, I'd already own one. My problem is the measly storage. 512GB, only 364GB left after OS. When a lot of AAA games run over 100GB, that's gonna fill up real quick. You can remedy this by getting a storage expansion card, but that brings the total cost to more than the Series X.

If you're a very casual gamer who only plays one or two games at a time, the Series S may be a good buy. But I'm pretty casual, don't have a ton of games, and I've been struggling with the 500GB storage limit on my PS4 for a couple years now. It can only be worse with newer games.
Its Costco. They are a warehouse retailer. They have paid members and they purchase in bulk. People pay membership fees for access to prices below MSRP. Those membership fees help pay for things being sold under MSRP.

I'll just add my two cents on the debate, and say I love the Series S coming from a X1 S, and I play it on a 4K TCL Roku TV along with the Switch, PS4 slim, and Shield TV pro. I've been all digital since the end of 7th generation anyhow, so the lack of a optical drive does not bother me. If anything, that's a plus as I love the relatively small size of the console. Lack of true 4K does not bother me either seeing how I still watch/play 1080p content all of the time otherwise. As for the storage issue that's a big problem I admit, and if they ever release a cheaper digital version of the X like Sony did with the PS5 I'm on board, but in the meantime I have a 4TB portable hard drive, and fine with using it for cold storage for S/X games that don't run off it.
You could get a discless full power ps5, more storage and those exclusives for just 100 more.

Well, one day you will be able too...

Just one problem: actually finding a PS5.

Was thinking the same thing. Hack. Maybe should include a lite desktop and office 365 with ultimate game pass. It would practically sell itself. Like Sony including DVD player in ps2.
Incidentally, this niche product has materialized:

https://videocardz.com/newz/amd-l...box-series

After producing millions of the console SoCs, AMD ends up with some number that don't meet the quality cut, so they get repurposed as mini PCs for the Chinese market. This also happened with the Xbox One.

But with no beefy RDNA2 integrated graphics, the value will be a lot worse than a hypothetical hacked $300 Xbox Series S. Pricing is likely to be terrible in relation to the Series S and X.

I'm excited for Rembrandt desktop APUs w/ RDNA2 coming next year, but they will probably be slightly lower (85-90%) graphics performance than the Xbox Series S at higher prices.

Man, it would be something if MS supports light desktop functionalities on a series S/X. An end-point for O365. Plug in a wireless kb/mouse and you've got a great, compact PC for the masses. Add support for cheap web cams (or just sell their own $100 cam) and you've got a killer teleconferencing setup.

Cmon Microsoft, I'm waiting to give you $25/month for my GPU + O365 subscription.

I love the Series S. Just got one and was playing Gears 5 along with MLB the Show 21. This device packs a powerful punch in such a nice package.

Unpopular opinion, but this is basically an XB1. Just get the series X or don't bother.

The XB1 doesn't have an SSD, quick resume, 10gb of RAM, and the same slim profile.

Add in other things like, 120FPS gaming, ray tracing, HDMI 2.1 support? The facts are the S offers new features the One line doesn't have.

Around page 5 or 6 I made a few comments so this is a follow up. I managed to find a Series X yesterday. By sheer timing. Thank you Target. After digging deeper I have come to the conclusion that not everyone needs the Series X to have a great gaming experience. 1080p is fine for most casual gamers. Game pass combined with eaplay and games with gold have enough content to keep anyone going for a long time without having to buy a single physical game. Plus they take up space. Your college kid would thank you for the space you save him using an all digital system. I on the other hand own a 120hz 4k TV Samsung and want that eye candy and 120fps when possible so I chose to spend the coin on the more expensive but more powerful Series X. The s is not a bad console by any means. A smaller ssd is kinda lame but if they had put a 1tb drive in the s then they would have had to sell it at a higher price and in turn probably drive the series X higher as well. I personally don't see why I would pay 220 for an expansion card because now I am at the same price plus 20 dollars as a Series X. Just doesn't make sense to me. I guess that is why we have freedom of choice.

Anyone looking for a cheap smaller TV for your Series S, Vizio just released a 40" 1080p TV that supports VRR for $228. Decent deal that takes advantage of that Series S feature

One of the newer games drops to 576p on the S. Oof. Forget 4k, 1080p, or even 720p in that game.

Would be ok for a kid or 2nd console only, except the poor storage. but even that kid is going to know he's got 2nd best.

But the real problem is a digital Series X would be 399. There's not enough manufacturing cost savings to justify the S. Microsoft has said they lose more money on it too, so they're subsidizing it to even get to it's current imo poor value proposition.

The Series S is definitely a secondary system for me. It's really meant to replace my PS4 since my OG gen model didn't do much and my PS5 does the job for my PS4 games.

For Flight Simulator? I'll be content with 1080p gaming.

What would be the advantage of that? Couldn't you just buy a pc and then have an x86 and a gaming system?
