MacRumors Forum: M1 Mac mini won't recognize manual HiDPI settings [macrumors.com]
Example quote from Macrumors thread: MacRumors Forum: M1 MBP & LG 34 inch ultra wide 5K2K [macrumors.com]
This is complete insanity. The last thing on my mind was worrying about finding a display when buying the M1 mini, but apparently it is the biggest issue. Usable (practical) HiDPI scaled resolutions don't exist or work, font smoothing and sub pixel anti-aliasing options are a thing of the past. So, after MUCH searching (and buying and returning 2 monitors already), I literally have ONE option for clean font rendering and usable resolution for my Mac mini -- the LG 5k 27. And I don't want a 27, I need a 34-wide, or a 32. Making non-retina and non-apple monitors look like garbage is seemingly what Apple intends. I'm sure this is no accident. I already called Apple about this (which was a complete waste of time). I now just want my money back from Apple - enough is enough.

got one (8GB/256GB) from Costco at $500ish and a MBA (8B/512GB) for $1000ish. They were on sale and they allow you to use those $100 coupon on top of it.
I think 8GB is fine, so far, per smartctl check, mine SSD usage is normal, comparable to my Intel mac.
