Good deal, thanks OP.

FYI

Good idea to do a clean install of Windows every now and again. That's why Microsoft has made it so easy (Start > Settings > Update & Security > Recovery > "Reset this PC") and 20 minutes later you are good to go.

yes it would be a great fit, for home, office, students, coders, CAD, miners, and even casual gamers. Pretty much everyone except enthusiast that like to build and maintain their own systems.

Yes according to the picture it has enough ports to drive 4 monitors. My kid has this with a GTX1650 and he uses it with 3 monitors running at 1080p (2K). If you are just an normal person that wants to get a good deal on a good PC that will probably never be opened, and the only real maintenance you do is reinstall Windows ever couple of years to clean the system up. Then this system is perfect for you.
is it simple to do a clean install of Windows?

How do you get a 200+ watt card to work in this system with a 360w PSU?

Nvidia recommends a 600w system.

I bet this is being throttled by power over anything else. I recall all reviews saying 3k series cards spike over their recommended wattage.
the power consumed in this system for each card is listed in this table: https://www.dell.com/en-us/lp/hmc...hics-Cards

Google is your friend and having the ability to read the footnotes/fine print....https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/gefo...x-1660-ti/

3 - Recommendation is made based on PC configured with an Intel Core i7 3.2 GHz processor. Pre-built system may require less power depending on system configuration.

edit - meant to also state that the recommended is only 450 and not 600 watts. Footnote still applies.
Agreed. The GTX 1660 Ti in real-world tests uses a max of 125-130w in synthetic stress test / Bench Marks. Similarly, the i5 10400F uses a maximum of 140w in a synthetic stress test. That's a total of 265-270w or about 100w less than the PSU capacity. The SSD and WiFi cards both being M2 slots can only use a maximum of 14w total.
In reality, during normal gameplay, you would not max out the GPU and CPU together at the same time. The average power draw would be in the range of 200w with maybe spikes up to 250w.
In short the 360w PSU is well within the range needed for this system as it sells.

Exactly. I did the same. I have two of these systems with an I-5 10400 and a 3060 ti and 5700 XT. Instead of looking for videos on how bad at these systems are search YouTube for how easy it is to upgrade these systems. You can also easily add an intake fan in the front and upgrade the cpu cooler. I also have a Dell OEM 1660 super from an XPS and while it's not great it can mine Ethereum all day at 30 mh while running cool.
What does 30Mh translate to as far as dollars per day?

-edit: found the answer to my question in this thread, thanks!

Is Reset the same as doing a clean install of Windows? Wouldn't reset bring back all the bloat ware that came with the machine?

Maybe. My kid has this G5 with a GTX1650 and he uses it with 3 monitors running at 1080p (2K) gaming. According to the specs it has (1x HDMI 2.0b, 1x DP 1.4, 1x Dual Link DVI) and the both the DVI and DP ports can drive 2 monitors if you buy a special dongle or adapter.

If you want a graphics cards that have 4 ports then the RTX 2070, RTX 3060, ad RTX 3070 that can come with this system have 4 ports. (1 HDMI and 3 DP) so do all the AMD Radeon cards (RX5300, 5600, 5700, 5700XT)

This says that is has a GTX 1660 and google tells me it has 4 ports. Or is this some variant that is different?

no - this is a clean install from Microsoft - If you choose Advanced Option you can even choose for it to wipe you drives clean and re-install from the Microsoft cloud.

Its worth it. Very easy to install also. No extra parts are needed. Do not remove the motherboard to install the bracket. The motherboard already has it behind it so the bracket that comes with the vetroo isnt needed.
Can I safely assume that this also means that you don't have to remove the motherboard in the Dell XPS 8940? Looked at several installation videos on YouTube and all demonstrated the installation with the mobo removed. Didn't look forward to doing this with the 8940 mobo.

Gamer's Nexus is definitely a computer geek-fest, but that video is about Gamer's Nexus approaching pre-builts for the sole purpose of recommending it to those who know little or nothing else about building their own rig. Their recommendation, which is spot on given the issues with this rig, is to avoid at all costs, especially those who are not computer savvy. There are better systems for the money out there even than this 'deal'.

The bloatware, the quality of components - this system runs out of the box 15 to 30% slower than it's counterparts and has significant design flaws that will definitely shorten it's usefulness and life and the users won't/can't fix because they aren't computer builders.. I'd avoid it and drop 200 dollars on a better built option with better specs which Gamer's Nexus has identified. Again though, those GN videos are for the tech crowd in recommending the pre-builts for family members and such so I think their dialogue on it is VERY relevant. I would suggest avoiding this system.
So you would recommend someone to build their own PC by paying more than reinstalling windows ? I don't even reinstall these days, just uninstall some of the software.

Unless you have HDD all these systems are very fast.

I was referring to the person who said they have a 3060Ti.

That it is still 90w under recommended. There is only a ~60w difference in TDP on an i5 and i7 series. So, you are still more than likely getting throttled.

Word of warning to others who did this deal: check your invoice. I was super careful (I thought) about not signing up for any paid services or software but when I checked my invoice, I saw 2 things:

1 McAfee LiveSafe Consumer 12 Month Subscription $31.74
2 Onsite/In-Home Service After Remote Diagnosis, 1 Year $24.76

I was on hold for over 80min getting bounced around from department to department. I was also told that these were just line items and not actually charged items (which did not hold up when I added up the invoice and saw they were included in the subtotal). It makes me think that Dell does this intentionally with poor/confusing UI on the order form and then terrible customer service (enforced by crappy software the customer service is forced to use along with crappy international connection to India) to pocket the fees from people who do not notice or give up in frustration.

In the end, I was promised refunds for both things and it was more frustration than ~$56 is worth for myself. But if I share this with the community and it saves others from being ripped off by Dell, it seems more worth it. Check your Dell invoice and make sure you weren't charged either if you did this deal.
