I was buying Beneful before, which is full of corn and other garbage. I now buy the Rachel Ray Zero Grain, which has no corn, wheat, rice or barley in it.

I don't know what your definition of "healthier" is, but at least try to make some valid points instead of "oh people" if you want to let us know.

And if you would rather take someone else's word for it, then here:

Wheat flour, glycerin and rice syrup are the first three ingredients by weight....I'll pass. I choose to give my dog actual food, not this garbage.

Might be worth investigating the grain-free fad some more, not saying what to do one way or the other, just check it out:

https://www.akc.org/expert-advice/nutrition/fda-grain-free-diet-alert-dcm/ [akc.org]

It seems overall inconclusive, but there is some smoke there, enough that I have been staying away from the grain-free boutique dog foods that cover their bags in buzz words. Something like Hills science diet or the mid-range Purina brands have been my go-tos.

We bought some to try, and realized these are basically like really rich ice cream for dogs. They are a very rare treat. Maybe a couple per month. The packaging even has a warning about their high calorie content.

My dog is 72 pounds of mutt. Mostly Malinois I think but not sure what all breeds he is. He is quite the chewer so instead of these dog bones I give him a large carrot. He gets one every so often but the vet says every day is ok as long as I watch total intake. My dog gets lots of exercise and is very lean so some carrot and a piece of banana are his treats.

The FDA has found that dogs on grain free diets have a significantly higher chance of developing heart problems (canine dilated cardiomyopathy). Talk with your vet of course, but (pretty much) no vet I know of will recommend a grain free diet unless they have specifically tested your dog for grain allergies.

Source: Wife is a vet and the FDA itself.
https://www.nbcnews.com/health/he...e-n1025466 Here is an article, but a quick google of "FDA grain free dog food" will give you all the info you need.

If you have carpet or a rug, be prepared to get red stains out.
