I purchased it last night and love it so far! I haven't cooked on it yet, but I did follow the seasoning process and it held temperature steadily, normally within 3-5 degrees for more than an hour. At one time, it did spike by 11 degrees, but it quickly lowered. This is much more reliable than my pellet grill that fluctuates 50+ degrees. The lighting process is a bit cumbersome, but I feel like it's a learning curve I can easily learn and adapt to. Granted, the quality could be better, but it is nice and solid, the lid fits tightly, and as I said previously, it holds temp like a champ! And it does heat up, FAST! I can't wait to cook on it tonight!

Home Depot price match this for me plus an extra 10% off. Paid $318 after taxes.

Thanks OP!

Have this grill for over a year now and love it. I use a mix of briquettes and lump in the hopper. Couple tips: when first lighting the charcoal, use the hopper as a chimney til the thick smoke stops, you don't want that on your food. Also be very careful of grease fires, was reverse searing Ribeyes while smoking beef ribs, removed the ribs when they were done and cranked the temp up to 650 to sear the Ribeyes and instant grease fire.

Wow 50 plus. Good deal on this. Had a grease fire yesterday on this doing my brisket. But my guess I should have cleaned it out after doing chickens last time. Ended up finishing the brisket in the oven.

Looks tempting. Here is a review from amazingribs. Seems to be 3/5 stars due to some quality issues. I wonder if there has been quality or possible upgrades.

On my pellet smoker, I had much better performance replacing the POS temp probe from the manufacture with a $12 one from Amazon.

Can you tell us the brand and model of the pellet grill you have?

I bought this grill about a year and a half ago and have many cooks on it through COVID. Really was amazing since I was working at home I was able to cook on it all the time. The flavor that you are able to easily get out of this thing with the charcoal and ease of use really is pretty incredible.

That being said I have the same issues already mentioned. Flair ups are a very very big problem - I had one last year while under an extreme fire warning for our area and it was very disconcerting. I had not had a flair up to that and would not use this grill in those conditions again. I have cleaned it again and again and it doesn't seem to matter now, I still get them if I go above about 450. There are some mods that are supposed to help with those. That being said I use it mainly as a smoker and cannot really get it up high enough to sear/grill because I cannot trust I wont have flair ups. Also, I would be surprised if I get another year out of this. The build quality just is not that great. For $350 this is a good price I think - and I would not pay $500 unless build quality improved. I also have the "Open Lid" issue where my sensor for lid closure will not register closed anymore (which means no bluetooth control).

I've had mine for about a year now and love it. TIP: Rolled up paper towel covered in vegetable oil for lighting. Just wedge it in through the 2 bars at the bottom of the hopper. Top lid open for about 5 minutes, then set temp and close up. Don't forget to open your slides lol.
So simple and works every time.

A little tip it took me a couple months to find out. When lighting I put a TBSP of vegetable oil in a cup and wad up a couple paper towels and let them soak that up for a few minutes. Stick that in your lighter slot and you don't have to worry about your fire going out once you shut the doors. Just be careful lighting the towels because that hot oil dripping on your fingers will hurt laugh out loud

Would love to sell my GMG pellet grill and try this, so I may bite at this price point. I've heard it produces more flavorful food due to use of charcoal instead of the wood pellets.

It also seems like one of the only gravity fed charcoal smokers in its price class, I've seen other (possibly higher quality/commercial units) going for thousands of dollars more

Life hack - On my gravity feed we adapted an metal elbow to the grate. Then this fits over the top of a heat gun. <$20 at harbor freight
Then just plug in and let go on high for 5 min and everything lit perfectly.

I use fatwood/duralight sticks which are cheap and work really really well. No dripping oil problem and burn longer than oil paper towels. I find them more helpful especially when you have older or some used charcoal at the bottom.

There have been a few quality upgrades since they released this and there are lots of mods that you can find through Facebook groups. Great price for a great grill!
