Also waiting for the 800 to drop.

But it has had me thinking about just getting a digital smoker and a griddle. I think I prefer flat top burgers/hot dogs/steak better than charcoal. Then I can just smoke ribs+chicken in the digital. And it's cheaper if the 800 doesn't drop! Sorry, rambling...

I'm with you on the griddle for smash burgers and breakfast or stir fry stuff. I have a Blackstone and planning to pair it with a master built for that charcoal flavor. The wood pellet smokers and gas grills just don't come close to lump charcoal/wood in terms of flavor.

This is exactly where I'm at. Currently have a 560 and a Blackstone. The 560 is getting a bit rough after three years so contemplating replacement. The larger units offer some nice quality of life upgrades (shelf, hooks, etc) but they will also use more fuel. The only times I've been concerned about the room in a 560 is during large turkey smoking, over 4 racks of ribs, full packer brisket over 17lbs.

I dont know about you guys, but I get plenty of smoke with my pitboss pellet grill... Whenever I want to step it up a notch I still do use a smoke hex pellet canister or whatever they are called.

These seem cool, but I think I will stick with pellets.

I wouldn't make up your mind just yet until you've tried some meat from one of these smokers. or not.. better to not know what you're missing out on.

I used to grill on charcoal all the time in the past, I know the flavors well. I honestly don't miss it cause the pellet does a good job with smoky flavor and the sear function to get some char on the piece of meat.

I was looking at one of these do and am keeping tabs incase they ever get to $200 price point on clearances.

So it begins, the battle for the Masterbuilt 800... it took me 2 years trying until we got ours. It is amazing!

Too small? I only have two humans and one dog to feed. No need to smoke 20lbs of meat at once.

I see where they're coming from... if we're having a party, it's not too hard for me to max out the area on my Woodwind SG24. Smoking food is a long endeavor, it's not like grilling where you can cycle your food fast.

Anyways, back on topic... I have an MB560. It's OK. Small side, you're only getting a couple big steaks on it, but probably a fair number of hamburgers and hot dogs and such. It is very easy to run, which I appreciate... learning to light the charcoal is a bit of a skill, but you get the hang of it eventually. I do all my smoking on the aforementioned Woodwind, so I just use the MB560 for grilling and searing. It does get crazy hot (700f) which I love.

You missed it at the end of last summer. Walmart had the 800 for this price. It is sitting in my garage waiting for assembly.

I wish! I did get the 800 for this price at the end of last summer! My luck started with getting the 560 to review when it was prerelease. We still have it and other than replacing a few parts, it's still going strong - 3ish years later.
