Two major differences -

Appearance - Old one had Black remote, New one has Silver remote
Description - Old one says 'A10X chip', New one says 'A12 chip'.
New one also has HDMI 2.1, Wifi 6, 4K (60fps) YouTube, and a Thread radio (the big thing, for me). So no, no huge differences, but things that could be important to some.
I am an Android based streamer fan, and love the Fire TV boxes and Sticks. But let me tell you something, we are talking about Apple here. $99 for an Apple 4k Box is pretty good deal. Apple is known for supporting devices sometimes for 7-8 years. It's more powerful than most boxes in this price range. And the App Store is different story. It's polished, UI between the apps and animations feel more natural and fluid in the ecosystem. It also has a Gigabit Ethernet port unlike most other streaming devices.

You maybe able to find it cheaper through those Walmart YMMV deals ( which are proven to be difficult to replicate and time consuming too ). Apparently, most retailers are getting rid of the remaining stock. Good luck!

Still a bit too much. Would love one of these in my home theater, but the combo of my LG C9's WebOS and Firestick 4K is good enough. Would bite if this got to $79.

Is there a way to distinguish this Apple TV from the new one? My heart always skip a beat when I see a $99 deal before it hits me that it's for the previous gen.

Son of a biscuit. Just got one at that price through target. Too lazy to buy and return. Oh well, not lately to fair/break anyways

Easiest way is the remote. New one has a click wheel and the old a track pad. Functionality-wise, very similar based on the components

Great deal! If I hadn't just used my Chase points for 25% off the new Apple TV 4K, I'd totally jump on this.

Man I'll tell you. This is a good deal but the new remote is so much better you're probably better off paying more.

If you can find the old ATV 4k for 70 and the remote for 50 or whatever it's a good deal… but at $100 you may as well spend up.

I have the 'old' Apple TV 4K (this model) hooked up to a C9 oled downstairs. The new one is on a GX oled in my living room. Zero appreciable difference. The 120hz stuff is good for gaming but you ain't playing intensive games on this box regardless.

The old atv, this model, has all the audio and video synch stuff that the newest TVOS update baked in.

It really comes down to if you want the new remote or not. The new remote is 100% worth the higher cost in my opinion- the old one genuinely sucks.

got a warehouse one for $75 and have been using it for a few days for a different TV in the house. i normally use a 2019 shield tube which I think is quite good. but, i've changed my mind after using the ATV 4k (previous gen). the UI is so simple and polished, the video quality just looks better to my eyes for some reason across all the streaming apps, everything just works, Siri is incredibly accurate and useful here, and auto color calibration with a friend's iphone is pretty nice. i'm an android/PC guy but i've been really impressed with ATV 4K. yes, the remote isn't great, but it isn't as bad as people make it out to be. i would definitely buy it over fire stick 4K (I have two) and the nvidia shield tube (in fact, i'm going to sell the tube on ebay today).
