These things are very unlikely to happen again. WF got hit with tons of fees and penalties and invested hefty in their risk compliance departments This whole thing sent a shockwave across the industry that also benefited banks' employees. Tellers don't need to aggressively cross sell bank product anymore.

Good all-rounder for those looking for a generalist card and better than Apple Card for merchants who don't take Apple Pay (there are a sizable bunch). Points are awarded monthly and with a $25 minimum for statement credit or check back (Direct Deposit isn't possible unless you have a bank account with them). Wells Fargo's latest pay with points option (I think inspired by Chase Pay Yourself Back) can get around this threshold - redemption is 1 cent to 1 point and points balance must cover the entire amount (no partial offsets). Cell Phone Protection is a good plus, few cards offer a higher rewards rate on top of this perk.

Another thing - Wells Fargo act funny if you pay too many times a month online (I think over 3 payments blocks you from making online payments for the rest of the statement period), but you can always pay over the automated phone system if you exceed this limit.

FNBO also has a 2% cash back Visa with a pre-qualification link. Might be helpful for those who don't have perfect credit and are unsure if they'll get approved. It even tells you the credit limit they'll pre-qualify you for. I got approved yesterday; it'll be my highest limit card so far.

What is the issue with WF. I have their WF Cashwise card which keeps sending me their Grocery offer for 10% off every now and then and has had zero issues. I had a 0% APR for my kitchen remodel and the showroom forgot to add the right promo and once I sent them the details, they corrected it and even ensured I get additional 48 months after 2 yrs of paying. So far good and hope it continues

Would anyone be able to give me a better credit card recommendation? Currently have two legacy credit cards from Wells Fargo. I would like to be smarter about the cash back features. Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

I have the PayPal Mastercard which also offers 2% cash back. That is my favorite 2% card that I have because I am able to get the money back as soon as my statement generates. A lot of cards require $25 increments in rewards to cash out. That isn't the case with PayPal Mastercard but the downside is that there isn't an upfront cash reward bonus like Wells Fargo is offering. I signed up for this new Wells Fargo Active Cash card. I did get my bonus a few days after my first statement. I don't trust Wells Fargo but I was happy to get the $200.

I have the Paypal MC with 2% cashback as well. It's easy to rack up cash rewards quickly, but I really hate the card management. You have to access it via Paypal app or website, which passes you to Synchrony bank, and the interface is really cumbersome. You can only get your rewards as Paypal credit. So to pay your card balance with the reward, you have to deposit it to paypal, and then a day later go back and make a payment to the card using your paypal balance. You also don't get a $200 bonus.

1.5% + $200 reward will be ahead of a straight 2% card until $40,000 spent. Most people won't be there very soon. So a better 1.5% card with $200 up front bonus might be better for most regular folks.

This 2% with $200 reward is tempting, but I just don't trust Wells Fargo and don't want to reward them with my business. I don't need $200 reward or an extra .5% that badly.

Sure, none of these banks are our friends. But certain banks have patterns of illegal or predatory behavior. So I feel it is best to avoid them.

Yes and I agree. I didn't want to sound too negative (but did), but saying it the way you did stresses the point that they are not our friends no matter what they say.

Tbh, I got this 2% card and two other credit cards with rotating categories at 5% (Freedom Flex, Discover It). I have to say that I barely use the 2%.
