These things are very unlikely to happen again. WF got hit with tons of fees and penalties and invested hefty in their risk compliance departments This whole thing sent a shockwave across the industry that also benefited banks' employees. Tellers don't need to aggressively cross sell bank product anymore.
Good all-rounder for those looking for a generalist card and better than Apple Card for merchants who don't take Apple Pay (there are a sizable bunch). Points are awarded monthly and with a $25 minimum for statement credit or check back (Direct Deposit isn't possible unless you have a bank account with them). Wells Fargo's latest pay with points option (I think inspired by Chase Pay Yourself Back) can get around this threshold - redemption is 1 cent to 1 point and points balance must cover the entire amount (no partial offsets). Cell Phone Protection is a good plus, few cards offer a higher rewards rate on top of this perk.
Another thing - Wells Fargo act funny if you pay too many times a month online (I think over 3 payments blocks you from making online payments for the rest of the statement period), but you can always pay over the automated phone system if you exceed this limit.
FNBO also has a 2% cash back Visa with a pre-qualification link. Might be helpful for those who don't have perfect credit and are unsure if they'll get approved. It even tells you the credit limit they'll pre-qualify you for. I got approved yesterday; it'll be my highest limit card so far.
Just adding a note that the cell phone policy is only in effect after homeowner's or rental ( or cell phone insurance). Meaning if you have a phone but no manufacturer or carrier insurance on it but DO have a homeowner's (or rental) policy they would make you file a claim with your homeowners before they would do anything claim wise.
I read that when I was looking it up. I wonder if anyone here has had experience using this cell phone coverage and can chime in on how it went.
Most people have at least a $1000 deductible for homeowners insurance. Filing a claim just for your cell phone through your homeowners is a waste of time if you gave to pay the deductible anyways.

I filed claim with Capital One Savor MasterCard which discontinued cell phone coverage as of Oct. Claim you file with MasterCard directly with screenshot of 2-3 months statements showing cell phone was paid via same card, cell phone bills, repair estimate or actual spent and within few weeks you get the amount back on same card minus deductible
FYI if you upgrade from another WF CC to this one, you won't be getting the $200 bonus
This is probably true if you UPGRADE. I'm an existing WF card holder and I applied for the ActiveCash card right through a link in my online account. It showed the same $200 bonus/$1000 purchase offer as in this thread. I was immediately approved after answering some income and ID questions. YES, I'M ALMOST POSITIVE THIS RESULTED IN A HARD CREDIT INQUIRY. After approval I received a notification from WF of my Experian credit score and other related info.
I found the application link in my online WF account under the ACCOUNTS tab...NEW ACCOUNT SERVICES...OPEN AN ACCOUNT. This will take you to the Products & Offers page...scroll down to Credit Cards and click the Apply Now link. The ActiveCash Card offer should hopefully show up on the next page!
After approval there was no mention of me having qualified for the bonus offer so I called cust service - 800-642-4720, and asked if I had received the promo. I specifically mentioned that I am an existing WF card holder and she assured me I would receive the bonus if I make the required purchase amount. She said because this is a new account with a new card number I am eligible.
FYI - I opened my existing WF card account about two years ago and use the card very actively. I have an 830 Experian and pay my balance in full each month.
Gen 0 immigrant, 5 years in US. Have a Discover card that I opened 3 years ago, 770 credit score. Got a hard inquire and a letter requesting proof of pay stubs. Approved after that with 6k limit. Will be good enough to put me on the 800+ score since I had to few accounts.
Last time I "converted" my 1% card to the 1.5% cash wise card they pulled a hard credit check even after stating they would not. Anyone check their credit report?
Should not be, this is a new policy.
In the past wells fargo would not let you convert accounts, they just open a new one. So for credit history you were better off just opening new account.
I've read a few times that this one doesn't offer price protection but one of Wells Fargo dose offer PP but with a lot of limitations. Doe any other CC's offer at least a deceit PP without so many limitations?
Thanks for any and all info on this.
Will they tell me I'm officially approved on the spot? I did the soft prequalify and they told me what I would qualify for and the limit and than when I did the official application it says they will mail me the results. Usually they will tell you right away your approved but I have never used first national bank.
I got pre approved for $15,000. It seems like from the comments that if I applied for WF the limit maybe only $2,000
How long does it take them to apply the $200 after you meet the spend requirement? Been waiting over a week.
Not sure exactly how long it took but it wasn't too long after the last transaction that took it over $1000 posted. The rewards don't show an earning history that I can find but I do see I redeemed the $200 bonus to my account 10 days after the transaction that too kit over $1000. I didn't even know the bonus had posted to my rewards until I happen to look at my account, could have been sitting there for a couple of days.
What a waste. Only approved for $2,500. Could have gotten $15,000 with FBNO.
Well I did what was not expecting. I applied for both. Got $2,500 with WF and $15,000 with FNBO. I hate the 2 hard credit hits but why not take advantage of both $200 rewards. I will use the FNBO as my go to with the high limit and points.
Curious about the experience people have routinely dealing with WF vs Citi.
I'm a cash back whore: different credit cards for different categories, collecting between 3%-6% on groceries, travel, hotels, gas, restaurants, utility bills, Amazon purchases, etc., and using only my Citi Double Cash for the items I can't get more than 2% on (my friend who's a former executive at Capital One says "oh yeah they're all losing money on you…").
But my beef with Citi is that I'm constantly triggering fraud alerts, and I'm getting sick of it. It's become a ritual: every time I travel, and of course every year on Black Friday when I spend a lot in one day. I get messages ("we need to speak with you") but they don't call me. They make me call THEM and wait on hold, then go through all the out-of-wallet identity verification, then review all my charges, then I have to call the retailers — or go back and re-order the same things again. It happens several times a year and I don't have this issue with any other bank.
I'd switch to another 2%-back-on-everything card in a heartbeat.
