Not knocking the deal as it is the best price currently, but don't trust that MSRP for a second. It's $629 (+89 shipping) from Sam's club, which includes their return policy. In the end that may be a better deal for some people.

This year proved that I don't need a gym. A home gym is way better on my time and my wallet. Plus, no gym people...

Yep, been slowly buying stuff, moving in a few weeks and I'll be picking up a rogue squat rack to replace the wood one I built during covid

Is this okay for benching, deadlifting, etc? Does it have any safety feature? Or would I need a spotter?

Just fine for all, either using the smith machine part, or the safety bars (which catch dropped weight) would work fine for working out alone.

Thanks. Would you say I should put some foam or anything underneath? Or it should be fine just straight on a regular concrete garage?

Also would you have any recs for weights?

Although it's sometimes hard to get motivated and my home gym equipment is limited and not quite gym quality. Although good enough for basic workout and get a sweat on. If I had several thousand to spare, getting a peloton or fitness mirror would be great, but that's a hefty investment
If you can find one get a flywheel spin bike. Defunct company peloton sued into oblivion but their bikes are really life fitness bikes made in Taiwan, very high quality. You can get it to give you cadence and watt measurements on a separate app while running cheaper peloton app on tablet or TV or even on a monitor with speakers mounted to bike if you can find the vesa tablet mounting arm. 80-90% peloton experience without the higher sub cost. Or even just get a nicer bike trainer that will give you cadence watts while using peloton app. Got my flywheel bike for $600 NIB on FB market.

Any cheap weights are fine, I only have standard size (1" holes) and they will work too since this uses slide on sleeves to make the plate arms 2". Straight on concrete can be done but check Tractor Supply or other places for horse stall mats, they help keep it from moving a bit and protect the floor.

Mercy makes good products, but I wouldn't consider this a good product. They might make it well, but Smith machines in general have a lot of shortocomings and dangers compared to free-weights.

Get a Marcy bench with a squat rack, an olympic barbell, and 300# of standard weights and you're set. This would probably cost $400-$500 and last a lifetime or more.

What is the height of the gym assembled? It says 98X59X82 in product description. is this shipping dims or actual? I hope height is 82 since my ceiling in basement is 85" to bottom of frame.

EDIT: From mfg website:

Assembled Cage Dimensions is 65"L x 79.25"W x 84.5"H

So tight in my basement! #sadface

I used to workout at the gym until covid hit, now I can't see myself leaving my personal home gym in my garage. No gym needed.

Wow can we all just keep on topic?

I just have a question for those more informed than me about home gym equipment. For an avg joe looking for general fitness and do some strength training, is this better vs something like inspire ftx from Costco? I know it's not exactly same thing but I figure you can mimic many of the movements on the ftx, which is what I have. Ftx is more $$$ but already has plates so probably similar price range. Just looking for rational opinion not hyperbole.
