Never understood the point of this. When the service shuts down, what happens to all the money you spent on the games? Down the toilet 🤢. At least make it so that if you own it on Stadia, you also have it in your Steam library or vice versa.
This is already a thing. Google said if they ever shut it down (which it is continually growing in popularity now, so probably won't happen), they would either refund you or move your game to another service.

Google has a very long list of products which went down the drain as they were not "profitable enough" for Google.

Google says a lot of things too. As long as it is not written in a binding contract, they can change their tune anytime without notice - like "sorry you have to fulfill these set of conditions for this to take effect! Did you not read the fine print?", "oh we tried but we could not reach an agreement with another service!", "sorry your purchase was made too long ago! We only issue a refund if the purchase was in the last month!" etc.

Last I checked Google themselves shut down ALL of their internal game studios (despite having made lots of hires less than a year ago) and sent all staff packing, so I would not hold my breath on the long term viability of Stadia.

As of right now, there has been no announcement of any partnership with another platform to link / share licences. Do you really think that they will go through the effort to do so once they shut down? For those of us with a little memory of other cloud services (OnLive, Gaikai, etc.) we all know that those empty promises never materialize. They make these vague statements to get you to sign up but they don't follow through - once they close the service who is going to hold them accountable anyway?

And think about it. If a game like Judgment is not available on Steam / Epic / GoG, how would Google transition your licence to another platform?

They aren't making games anymore, which is probably good. Instead they are acting as a cloud console, which is where everything will be in the next decade or sooner.

I'll wait for Judgment from Steam. Hope Stadia is gone soon.

Why, did stadia hurt you? Show me on the doll where stadia touched you.

Buying up exclusives is console shenanigans. The Yakuza series and associated games was nearly complete on Steam. Google was dishonest in marketing their service, and cloud gaming could eventually squeeze out people like me who like to own niche titles that often get removed in favor of more profitable franchises. And we could go into the company's behavior in general, but I won't go into that here. I like video games enough that I'm tired of companies who have an almost entirely negative impact on the industry.

Thanks for the reply. I don't know enough to have an opinion one way or another.

I haven't been into games since the PlayStation. Last computer game I played was company of heroes. Last arcade game was Marvel vs Capcom 2.

Stadia has allowed me to try games again with a low cost of entry. I could buy 3-4 games for the cost of one PlayStation disc

There is not much choice right now haha... but if you are into competitive shooters then R6 Seige.... Fallen order is highly rated... MK11 performs really well, but MP might be difficult.... Judgement is the lowest ever (any version).... and I don't have to tell you about Fifa/Madden.
