If you are going to cook or marinate, this gochujang is what you want to buy. If you are going to use it for dip or to spray over food, bibigo gochujang is what you are looking for.

As you can assume from the name this is more of paste, not sauce. Koreans use it with soy sauce, sesame oil, or water to mix it well. On the other hand, bibigo gochujang is made to target international market as a sauce just like how Sriracha had success.

Love this stuff for marinating pork and making tteok-bokki (saucy rice cakes). I also add in gochugaru which are sweet chili flakes.

Local Asian market has this for ~$4 when on sale, so this deal isn't bad taking into account the convenience.
Do you make them from scratch or have a specific brand you like for the topokki?

Close, but ssamjang basically is a mixture of gochujang (red pepper paste) and soybean paste (dwenjang) plus a few other things. So if you add gochujang to ssamjang, you're just adding more red pepper paste, which is fine.
Thanks for the corrections.

I'm Jamaican, my knowledge is basically jerk and patties. My past boyfriend(s) parents were kind enough enough to teach me some cool stuff.

Yes. Add all ingredients and rice to a bowl, add a spoonful (or two) of gochujang, add a spoonful (or two) of sesame seed oil, mix and enjoy. 🄣

this is the product that should have swept the US instead of sriracha.

Yes but this is conveniently delivered right to my front door, and I don't have to drive or deal with rude cashiers and gross fishy smells.
Come on…live a little! If we don't, there won't be any cashiers or fish markets!

I am told that it basically doesn't expire unless it gets moldy. It does get hard and funky though.

Second ingredient after wheat flour is corn syrup. Not the healthiest. I try to get the version at the Asian market where they use sugar and it's further down the top ingredient list

I use this recipe to make the sauce for rice bowls:

1/2 cup gochujang
1/4 cup toasted sesame oil
1/4 cup sugar
1/4 cup water
1/4 cup toasted sesame seeds
4 tsp vinegar
4 tsp minced garlic
1 chopped scallion

It tastes pretty good. And you can use it as the side sauce for Korean BBQ.
