The plot is amazing. Wish they made more, but the original developers were disbanded and the sequel didn't materialize.
It's basically like taking every HK gangster movie plot form the 80s-2000s w/ some real hidden history, smooshing it together into 1 single player experience.
They could easily do another game with the whole Macau timeline.. Buhhh.. sigh..... maybe some day.

Lol. This is not more fun than GTA V. It's a decent game though. Can't go wrong at this price.
I enjoyed it more, big fan of GTA also, it's in my top 10 games...and I been gaming for 20 years. I enjoyed the side activities more in this also, I found the story better, and the world is surprisingly fun to just mess around in.
One of my favorite games of all time. IMO the game world/map is so exotic and much more interesting than the GTA games. I didn't want it to end. Again IMO, The hand to hand combat, and driving is so much better than GTA. Only thing that can use some improvement is the shooting elements.
I enjoyed this more than GTA V and I liked GTA V. Very under-rated game in my opinion.
The reason is because the fighting is terrible in GTA V. In Sleeping Dogs, the street fighting is legit, with combos and stuff.
All the GTA series games have terrible mechanics for driving and fighting, everything is jerky. Sleeping Dogs is much smoother and the storyline is good too.
While this is a great game, it's not on par with GTA V, GTA sets the bar very, very high IMO.
GTA V is 'technically' superior due to being a newer engine and optimized for modern hardware, but Sleeping Dogs is still more fun and enjoyable at least IMO. The story, atmosphere, chasing sequences, and fighting mechanics are just great. I completed both games, but if I had to play one through all over again, it would hands down be Sleeping Dogs and that says a lot.
Regardless, I think the main takeaway is to not underestimate Sleeping Dogs. If you're a fan of the genre and still think GTA V is a better game, it's still worth playing if you want a new story to experience. The definitive edition looks quite good still even by today's standards.

SD is definitely a great game, but GTA V is still head and shoulders better for a ton of reasons not the least of which is it's made over a BILLION dollars and there's still tons of people playing GTA Online.

Again, SD is a great game, but it's no GTA. Not even in the same league.
Your favorite movie is Frozen 2 and you love listening to Taylor Swift by this type of logic.
Sleeping Dogs is better than GTA because it doesn't spend all it's time trying to be a real world simulator full of novelties and mini games. The story, combat, and action are all better in SD, but hey if you like sitting in virtual strip clubs then knock yourself out with GTA.
Numbers are more a reflection of mindshare and who has more marketing budget - not based on what is a superior game. The fact GTA V is more of a live service MP than it is a great SP also obviously affects player counts. I think the problem is that GTA was the first to the genre and therefore everything else that looks even remotely similar will be perceived as a cheap knockoff even if it's a better game. Unfair and unfortunate, but the way it is.
I'm surprised you think SDDE is that inferior to GTA V assuming you've completed both.

We agree to disagree on all your above points, and also on your ridiculous comparison. I own both games, they're both great games, but one is in another league to the other, GTA V is head and shoulders the superior game, but it's also not $2.50.

I'm not surprised at all, GTA V is an amazing game and I'm not even talking about the MP aspect of it. Again, SD is a great game, it's $2.50, a pretty low-risk investment all things considered, but if I had to replay one or the other, GTA V would be the choice. I'm honestly shocked so many people think that SD is better than GTA is, it's not even close. GTA V set the bar, and I've yet to play a game that's topped it.
