Just for an FYI, the higher the SEER number the more efficient the unit is. A 20 SEER unit is twice as efficient as a 10 SEER.

Those aren't DIY kits and require an HVAC Tech install for warranty. So unless you know how to vacuum lines yourself (which isn't a requirement for the kits the OP posted), you have to also calculate in labor costs. In my area that is at least $1k for a reputable vendor.

What's an estimate for a hvac professional to install this on a ground level home?
Recently had conversations with an HVAC guy here in Denver -- he said he found me an "awesome" deal on a Westinghouse mini-split for $1250 for parts. Quote from electrician to wire that side of the house with 120v was another $1400, all-in after HVAC installation was $5100. I passed.

This looks to be the 2nd gen kit based on the model number DIY-18-HP-230AE. Costco recently had a previous deal on the 3rd gen 24k BTU kit (https://slickdeals.net/f/15097099-costco-members-mrcool-diy-24k-btu-mini-split-wi-fi-air-conditioner-heat-pump-1500-free-shipping?src=SiteSearchV2Algo1) so I was surprised this would be the 2nd gen kit. Anyone know for sure?

I think this is 3rd gen because it's 20 SEER, whereas the 2nd gen 18k was 16 SEER.

good catch on the SEER rating. maybe Costco has the model # wrong. I found this searching based on the costco model number and it shows discontinued in 2019 and shows the 3rd gen unit as the replacement model. https://www.supplyhouse.com/Mr-Co...-Unit-230V
The 3rd gen model number should be DIY-18-HP-230B based on what I see.

I've been waiting on this to come back in stock, decided to check Costco earlier today and boom, back in stock. Like others mentioned. MR Cool + Costco = no brainer.

12k at 20seer can be had for $660 on eBay.https://www.ebay.com/itm/12000-BT...2403585634

Pioneer 18k 19seer for $1,050. https://www.ebay.com/itm/PIONEER-...4262294578

23seer 18k for $825 https://www.ebay.com/itm/303861949132

IMO this shouldn't cost more than $1,000.
Are these like Panaphonics, magnetbox or sorny?

Pioneer is the leading brand of mini-splits. Alot of commerical buildings around me use them.

Something else to note - this quote from the eBay entry for the Pioneer:
Once shipped the equipment is generally non-returnable. Please contact us for returns if required for certain reasons beyond your control within maximum 14 days. If we agree, we will issue an RMA number and other instructions to return the equipment. Returned equipment is to be shipped freight prepaid by the buyer and must be re-packed in its original condition and in its original packaging. Additionally, we will refund only the purchase price minus all original freight costs, EBay fees, PayPal or credit card charges and 20% restocking fee. PLEASE NOTE; AFTER IT IS INSTALLED, THE EQUIPMENT IS NOT RETURNABLE.
That ain't the way Costco talks.

Yeah, it sounds like if you buy from Ebay, you're on your own if it doesn't work. For Costco, you can probably pack it up and bring it to your local warehouse.

As others have confirmed. This is a complete DIY system, provided you can run the 220 electric. With the other systems, unless you can pull the vacuum and test the system, you are going to have to hire an HVAC tech. To hire an HVAC tech, if you don't have a "friends and family" discount, you are probably going to spend 6-700 to get an HVAC tech to install it. That is based off quotes in the San Antonio Texas area.

It is absolutely ridiculous that they want to charge that kind of money for no more than they have to do, but it is the cost of buying a cheaper system that isn't DIY.
I'm in SA, TX and was quoted about 7k for labor not including 5-6k for their unit. outrageous.

If you're able to route 220VAC and can handle the 25ft lineset (which is pretty long for a setup that's directly on the other side of the wall), then this is a pretty easy setup. The MrCool Advantage series, or similar are way cheaper, but you might have to cut and flare the lineset, then vacuum out the system. They also carry less warranty than the DIY series since those require certified HVAC techs to install.

Portable ones suck - I've used two for the last several years. They take forever to cool a room, are super loud, bulky, use alot more energy, and need more maintenance (drain water from unit manually).

If you want cheap low maintenance A/C's, best option are window units but they're not as quiet as these mini-splits.
