Just a heads up it appears to need 230v/20A

Just for an FYI, the higher the SEER number the more efficient the unit is. A 20 SEER unit is twice as efficient as a 10 SEER.

Those aren't DIY kits and require an HVAC Tech install for warranty. So unless you know how to vacuum lines yourself (which isn't a requirement for the kits the OP posted), you have to also calculate in labor costs. In my area that is at least $1k for a reputable vendor.

It's only one indoor unit. 18k BTU to cool/heat one room?
Is that how these things are supposed to work?

Are these designed for large outbuildings?

It's designed for 1 room since it's 1 head where the air gets cycled through. There are also units that share a compressor and have multi heads that you can put in different rooms. They heat and cool pretty efficiently.

Yeah, it sounds like if you buy from Ebay, you're on your own if it doesn't work. For Costco, you can probably pack it up and bring it to your local warehouse.
They will actually come and pick it up at your house. Love Costco

I request my TV return pick up, it is still sitting in my garage after 6 weeks with 6 plus calls. I received my 24k mrcool from Costco today, been waiting for almost a month and finally arrived.

12k at 20seer can be had for $660 on eBay.https://www.ebay.com/itm/12000-BT...2403585634 [ebay.com]

Pioneer 18k 19seer for $1,050. https://www.ebay.com/itm/PIONEER-...4262294578 [ebay.com]

23seer 18k for $825 https://www.ebay.com/itm/303861949132

IMO this shouldn't cost more than $1,000.
You are comparing AC only to heat pump. agreed better prices can be found . the mr cool benefit is it makes self install with out a vacuum pump. they also cover it with out professional install.

$896.18 for same unit here

https://iwae.com/shop/18k-btu-19-...18429.html
That is not the same unit. That's the Advantage series which mean it doesn't come with precharged linesets and you'll have to vacuum out the lines. It'll also void warranty if not installed by a professional.

Edit: it's also listed as back ordered. Part of this post bring a good deal is that It's actually available.

Two more questions if you guys don't mind. Again I am replacing a Mitsubishi 12 mini split on the beach. The insides are rotted, already replaced the pcb board last winter.

1) I probably only need about 10ft of lineset. Can I simply coil up the rest and put it where it doesn't interfere with the air flow?
2) On the beach just north of boston, it will get down to single digits. Does anyone have any real world feedback on the heat pump handling these conditions? The Mitsubishi 12k, was never able to get about 69 degrees if the temp was in the 20s or lower. I am hoping the 18k will be better.

Pioneer is the leading brand of mini-splits. Alot of commerical buildings around me use them.

Harbor freight vacuum pump-$100 after tax https://www.harborfreight.com/25-...61245.html [harborfreight.com]

I'm not sure who would say Pioneer is the leading brand aside from themselves.

Mitsubishi, Fujitsu and Daikin are the leading brands for quality here.
For volume -mid grade you have Gree and Midea

Just about any other brands aside from Mitsu, Fujitsu and Daikin are rebrands of Gree/Midea.

Pioneer is made by Midea.

A lot of people here are confusing DIY units with non DIY units. AFIK Mr Cool makes the only DIY unit I know of. Key differences to this:

You do not need vacuum pump (checks for leaks / ensures proper install/seals)
You do not need to flare / braze lineset (requires tools/skill)
Mr Cool will warranty homeowner installed unit.

Contrary to regular (non DIY) which Mr Cool also sells a line which requires licensed HVAC tech to install for warranty.

Most decent HVAC companies will not install any equipment provided by homeowner (so they can markup units they sell) they will not go anywhere near Mr Cool or DIY. Some will not service homeowner installed unit. If you install cheaper non DIY unit yourself and do not pull vacuum you are much more likley to have refrigerant leak in a year or two.

Seer is self explanatory - the higher the number the better the efficiency. Lower SEER units will be cheaper. It is up to you to determine if increased cost for higher seer unit will be a long term payoff.

Hope this helps.

It depends if your current wiring is sized to handle 20A.

The extra can be coiled, but they recommend a horizontal loop. I've seen tons of YouTube vids of people coiling them in the back of the unit vertically but that may create an oil trap, though I haven't heard people experiencing any issues.

I have the 2nd gen 24k Mr Cool DIY and have been running it for 2 years now with no issues. I wired my own 230v line which was simple to do if you aren't an idiot and have the extra space in your breaker box. the line set is 25ft so I have some coiled outside which I didn't like, but it doesn't look too bad. Mr Cool does have separate shorter lines you can buy from them if you want a smaller run. I love my unit, and I run it with Alexa with voice. I spent about an additioal $300.00 for the wall mount, Hvac hose covering, and electrical components you need, including drill bits and hole saw. I highly recommend this unit if you are at all handy. It would have been 6-7k for a similar system professionally installed. In total I spent around $1700.00. Well worth it for what I have been saving in heat costs.

It looks like it qualifies for a $300 federal tax rebate... pretty nice bonus on an already good deal. look at the link on Costco's site for Rebate Center – MRCOOL and plug in the item DIY-18-HP-230AE

Edit: I spoke to a electrician, you just need to swap out the beakers to 20amp.
This is incompetent and borderline negligent advice from the electrician. 15A circuits usually use 14awg wire. If you use 14awg with 20A, you'll be in for a bad time. 20A circuits need 12awg wire. If your current 15A circuit already has 12awg wire on the entire circuit, you'll be fine, but that's usually not the case.
