IDK... If you are into tech and are polite to the techs I have never had an issue. Quick phone or web chat and either a tech or a box sent out next day. Pending parts of course.
My Alienware 17 R1 (Ranger) with the i7-4900MQ / RTX 780 is still running strong after 7 years. I used it every day for 10-16 hours a day for 5 of those and then used the 7559 for about a year followed by my m17 r1. The m17 r1 has been used about 10-16 hours a day for the past year and only minor heat issues if the heatsinks got clogged.
m17 r1 was upgraded to 64GB, second nvme disk added, and of course OS rebuilt with Win10 Enterprise. Used 90% of the time on my lap and although I picked up better paste and pads to replace the OEM ones, I never had a need for non-gaming use. Gaming times go on a cooling pad to keep things stable.
The system I had originally purchased for my replacement was a Lenovo P71 with pretty much identical specs (i7-980xh one had a RTX3000, one RTX 4000 and one with a 5000). Alienware only has a 2060 max-P, but all of the Lenovo's ran super hot to the point where I could not use it on my lap. I run the AW m17r1 in shorts w/o issue.
The P71 did seem faster though as the IOPS felt faster when driving multiple VMs. Granted, the drives in there may have been faster than my Samsung 970 Evo.

Mostly going with this for CPU and GPU for the price, they missed the dell deal a couple days ago.
Essentially these alienware R5's are low quality rebrands of their Dell G series laptops. That's right the alienware R5 isn't an alienware, really, it's a Dell G series(not high quality) repackage. The alienware x15 is the successor to the R4, but that is a really bad laptop.
I asked for a refund or replacement but they wouldn't provide it until certain criterias are met. So here I am, wasting my time and with a Dell computer that doesn't work properly.

Then do a custom install where you purge the entire hard drive. Clean install w/o the recovery partition/etc. Then install none of Dells' crap since certain parts of it were exploited yet again to potentially allow remote control. Also, don't install any crappy antivirus to slug things down. You can also monitor Task Manager to see if something is chewing up the resources.
That will not help if it is truly a thermal issue though and you could try undervolting in the short term. Since that is a desktop things are in theory a bit easier, but random freezes could be software or hardware related. Even something a simple as a bad or loose stick of RAM. So, you could also swap the RAM if you are willing.

I know the G15 deal was +10W. So this R5 is different?
Only good thing I guess about this laptop is 2.1 HDMI (120Hz via HDMI). Same RAM, GPU, WiFi card, 165Hz screen and everything else.

And, Dell CS was atrocious when I dealt with them a few times. Sent parts to the wrong address, couldn't help diagnosis a problem, etc...
Not to mention, my friend got a Dell (that was also shipped to the wrong address) a a few months ago and they charged like $70 for the "free" warranty.
In my opinion, they are a crap company.

Computer companies are like cable companies. They all have their problems, but Dell, to me, is by far the worst. It's funny you mention Lenovo. I find I have the least problems with Lenovo.
