Its pretty decent for the specs you get. Build quality and heat has been an issue for this model though.

We use a few Dell Inspiron and Alienware systems in my house every day... only issue was really my 7559 4K laptop due to a weak hinge - covered under warranty twice over 3 years. Just dropped out of warranty.

IDK... If you are into tech and are polite to the techs I have never had an issue. Quick phone or web chat and either a tech or a box sent out next day. Pending parts of course.

My Alienware 17 R1 (Ranger) with the i7-4900MQ / RTX 780 is still running strong after 7 years. I used it every day for 10-16 hours a day for 5 of those and then used the 7559 for about a year followed by my m17 r1. The m17 r1 has been used about 10-16 hours a day for the past year and only minor heat issues if the heatsinks got clogged.

m17 r1 was upgraded to 64GB, second nvme disk added, and of course OS rebuilt with Win10 Enterprise. Used 90% of the time on my lap and although I picked up better paste and pads to replace the OEM ones, I never had a need for non-gaming use. Gaming times go on a cooling pad to keep things stable.

The system I had originally purchased for my replacement was a Lenovo P71 with pretty much identical specs (i7-980xh one had a RTX3000, one RTX 4000 and one with a 5000). Alienware only has a 2060 max-P, but all of the Lenovo's ran super hot to the point where I could not use it on my lap. I run the AW m17r1 in shorts w/o issue.

The P71 did seem faster though as the IOPS felt faster when driving multiple VMs. Granted, the drives in there may have been faster than my Samsung 970 Evo.

A serious issue? Someone I know is eyeing this for VR but in general they don't play that demanding of games.

Mostly going with this for CPU and GPU for the price, they missed the dell deal a couple days ago.
Serious yes, 100C temps, trackpad is very bad and has wobbling issues.

I just bought that G15 Del from the July 4 sale. Is this a better deal?
No, both have same lower quality so not really worth it

does this R5 have vapor cooling chamber for better cooling than R4?
No it's way way worse cooling then R4. That's why the R4 was never this low priced, it legit didn't go below 1500$.. meanwhile these R5's are way less.

Essentially these alienware R5's are low quality rebrands of their Dell G series laptops. That's right the alienware R5 isn't an alienware, really, it's a Dell G series(not high quality) repackage. The alienware x15 is the successor to the R4, but that is a really bad laptop.

I bought a Dell computer last month XPS8940 and it randomly freezes and restarts by itself. Tried to get support to fix it but nothing works. They sent someone out to replace the motherboard but guy never showed.

I asked for a refund or replacement but they wouldn't provide it until certain criterias are met. So here I am, wasting my time and with a Dell computer that doesn't work properly.

Just wanted to share my first and most likely last experience with Dell computers.

That could be a thermal issue, but did you try rebuilding the operating system? Basically, pull down the windows 10 media creator and create a bootable USB disk. https://support.microsoft.com/en-...c3b507420d

Then do a custom install where you purge the entire hard drive. Clean install w/o the recovery partition/etc. Then install none of Dells' crap since certain parts of it were exploited yet again to potentially allow remote control. Also, don't install any crappy antivirus to slug things down. You can also monitor Task Manager to see if something is chewing up the resources.

That will not help if it is truly a thermal issue though and you could try undervolting in the short term. Since that is a desktop things are in theory a bit easier, but random freezes could be software or hardware related. Even something a simple as a bad or loose stick of RAM. So, you could also swap the RAM if you are willing.

You should say 115W+15W for the 3060. For completeness.

And you have the Legion 5 5800H 3060 further down the page....

+15W or +10W?
I know the G15 deal was +10W. So this R5 is different?

Nah fam. Wait on that Asus G15 when it goes on sale. U get 1TB Nvme, Ryzen 5900HS CPU, 90Wh battery life, Dolby Atmos speakers (louder) and perhaps better thermals.

Only good thing I guess about this laptop is 2.1 HDMI (120Hz via HDMI). Same RAM, GPU, WiFi card, 165Hz screen and everything else.

My department at work has a large amount of Dells and most have problems after a short amount of time. Now, most were desktops, but I actually tried to fix a few as some looked like they had bad power supplies. Most everything about them was proprietary and an absolute pain to replace. They were built with crap parts and just horrible.

And, Dell CS was atrocious when I dealt with them a few times. Sent parts to the wrong address, couldn't help diagnosis a problem, etc...

Not to mention, my friend got a Dell (that was also shipped to the wrong address) a a few months ago and they charged like $70 for the "free" warranty.

In my opinion, they are a crap company.

Apparently, they are still doing it. Just looked this up:

Computer companies are like cable companies. They all have their problems, but Dell, to me, is by far the worst. It's funny you mention Lenovo. I find I have the least problems with Lenovo.

Quite unfortunate. I used Dell personally for almost 20 years and bought various desktop and laptop for friends and family (70 - 80 of them). I have had a couple of bad models but the rest have been decent especially refurbished (good value). I work with many companies that use Dell and they were ok. I am not sure how it went so wrong for you. On the other hand, I would never ever buy Lenovo. I avoid Chinese brand tech company whenever I know.
