Can you share more details , any links so I can read up.
It's a rabbit hole since there are a ton of sites that talk about mileage, including flyertalk, the awardtravel subreddit, among others. I personally look at www.milesfeed.com everyday and look at various posts.
Essentially you pick a destination and then find out which airlines fly there and what point currency to use based on what the airline's native currency is along with what alliances they are part of. You've got your pick between Citi ThankYou points, Chase Ultimate Rewards, Amex Membership Rewards, Venture Miles, etc.
You can use a site like www.awardhacker.com to figure out what points will get you from one airport to another but use this as guidance only since there are better redemptions through partners. For example, if you're flying between 2 American Airlines hubs, you may think you need AAdvantage miles at ~50k+ miles round trip but if you used British Airways Avios instead and book AA through BA, you will use half that. In the case of Citi TY points, they don't transfer to Avios so you can look at other partners https://thepointsguy.com/guide/ci...-partners/
For me, we identified flights from JFK to DXB (Dubai) and some business class seats were going for 75K one way. This was booking direct with Emirates. We could have flown cheaper through Turkish but it wouldn't be direct. You can obviously turn 80K ThankYou points to straight up $800 case but using this to book $3000+ airfare tickets was a better value. Of course if you don't value flying in luxury and want straight up cash, that is your prerogative.
Had pretty bad experiences with Citi. I had a bunch of Thank You points on a card that I was holding on to until I could spend the points. But they closed the account without my approval because I didn't use it for a few months. When I asked them to cash out the points, they said I can't anymore since the account was inactive. I don't trust them when they say points don't expire, since they clearly can take away access at some point. Maybe my experience was unique. It's just something to keep in mind for people who are thinking about opening this card and not spending the rewards right away.
Oh. Could you tell us about How many months of inactivity triggered that closure?
Did they refund your pro-rated annual fee upon closure? TIA
I just got approved for the Citi Custom Cash last week. I doubt I will be approved again for another card in a short period of time from Citi. FICO 825, 3% utilization, 15 years of average age of credit.
I'm in the same situation. Pls let me know how it goes if you apply. Citi exclusions does not specifically state the Custom Cash card (see below) but a snooty CSR insisted it's the same thing. Not sure...
Citi website says:
Bonus ThankYou® Points are not available if you received a new cardmember bonus for Citi Rewards+®, Citi ThankYou® Preferred, Citi ThankYou® Premier/Citi Premier® or Citi Prestige®, or if you have closed any of these accounts, in the past 24 months.
This is unbelievable…. Was trying to apply yesterday, but I had put a freeze on my credit report, and I had an error removing it, and it said to call in… and, the hours on the error message said today…. Well….crap on a cracker, as luck would have it. The offer ended last night.

the link thru doc of credit still has the 80k offer, it will also probably die soon
Use laptop/desktop go to the full ThankYou rewards portal from your online Citi account then pick Cash section -- select statement credit or direct dep or check
In the app you might have to select Gift Cards first to take you to the full rewards portal
Is DD working for everyone to redeem rewards? It's not working for me.
Today, I received the card and got it activated. I applied through citi.com for 80k offer but
I do not see the 80K points offer mentioned anywhere in the mail/ welcome package. Is this normal ? Please let me know. TIA.
So I bought some items that didn't turn out like I wanted and I am past the 90 days where I had to spend 4k. If I return these items with the points deposited in my bank already would they charge me for the points or do i have to make another purchase even if it's past the promotion time lapse?
Also if I cancel this card now would I be able to get the annual fee back?
