What is the appeal of the Mac mini? Not trying to be a smart ass just curious because I see these posts all the time at $100 off and people go crazy. I thought desktops were pretty much dead…Is it because it's a low entry level price point for a Mac? Do people use this for something specific like HTPC that makes the form factor more appealing? I was thinking about getting an iMac for our family computer due to the convenience of having the screen built in but may pick this up if it's that great of a deal and/or there is a specific use case to be made.

The cpu and gpu benchmarks are fast. The biggest thing is that these are silent. You can't find that same specs and silence on any other system. Only the m1

Is only 8gb of RAM going to be an issue for daily tasks? I have a MacBook Air right now with an i5 and 16gb of RAM and it struggles with a lot of browser tabs open, which I tend to do…I know this M1 is supposed to be faster than Intel chips but curious how it performs as a whole with the low RAM.

Average user, 8gb is enough. But if you do a lot of video editing get the one with more ram.

After watching hours of M1 footage after the release, I settled on a MacBook Air with a mere 8GB of ram instead of a MacBook Pro.

This was the video that made me not care, for my needs about getting the air over the pro.

All that to say that this Mini is powerful enough for the average user and as you will see from the ram comparisons, with the M1 architecture it's a matter of 'is the difference REALLY worth the cost?'

the only reason i think of getting this is for making iphone apps.. I think it's possible with windows using a dual boot with apple and use to do stuff like that back in the day but not anymore. i dont program phone apps either so it's a pure plunge but do program in general.

No, you can connect one TB display and one via HDMI. You cannot run two TB displays.

The M1 Mac Mini does support TWO displays, but in a very specific configuration: One (and only one) connected via Thunderbolt and 1 via HDMI.
