Would a Lenovo carbon or dell XPS be better?
Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Carbon & Dell XPS are much better build quality but they are more expensive. A way to lower the cost is to check out the outlet store for both manufacturers. They have refurbished, new, and scratch/dent. I have had good success in getting quality new or refurbished laptops from Dell. That being said, I feel the X1 Carbon is better quality than the XPS. it has more ports, better keyboard, brighter screen, quieter fans, built in camera shutter, and weighs less or about the same as the XPS.
I'm not sure how much this applies, based on the first answer you got which says there's "sub-categories" of Inspiron… and this one is 5000 series, but I bought the recent 16 Plus deal (7000 series) and overall I'm thrilled with the apparent build quality. About my only debatable criticism is to get a click on the trackpad takes a little more effort… but that's about it. The full aluminum shell, keyboard feel and lighting, all seem "premium" to me. I plan to return a Lenovo while I still can… because the Dell impresses me so much for the $.
I have yet to put it through its paces… but Pinch Zoom works as butter smooth as an iPad… which belies the integrated graphics, unless I'm missing something. I'm not a gamer, but for normal stuff, including boot-up from zero, everything seems really snappy.

Asking for Personal/Entity ID number... anyone know how to resolve?
14-inch FHD (1920x1080) LED WVA (Wide Viewing Angle), choice of 250 nits' maximum brightness, or 300 nits with ComfortView Plus
Could you please provide info on where to get $120? I only see 10% cash back.
How do you get it to run faster?
